Light Overtakes the Darkness By Brenda Drake

            I used to be so afraid of the dark, but now I know Jesus the Light of the world.  Evil influences and its terrible threats once caused me much heartache.  But now I know Jesus the One that died in my place to pay for all my sins will fight my battles for me.  Jesus is the Light that overtook the darkness around me and within me.

Light Overtakes the Darkness

It takes night to display
The light that takes darkness away.
It takes right to reveal the wrong;
The lie is overpowered by the truth strong.
Jesus is the Truth that proved light,
Overpowers evil-darkness and its blight.
The steady step that walks the walk,
And the faithful lips that talk the talk,
Will defeat every enemy for you see,
God is the Way and the Word for thee.
God’s Word is truth and our bread,
The Word lights the path ahead.
The heart that is opened wide,
To hear, taste, and see, is filled with the best inside
Jesus is the Word that spoke life at the start.
And cried it is finished so new life could enter the heart.
Jesus is the Lord and the Light displayed in the dark place.
He is love and it is His joy to deliver salvation through grace.
His mercy endures forever- darkness will forever flee.
He is God of all and all will one day bow their knee.

Psalms 112:4
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness:
he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Psalms 112:6
Surely he shall not be moved for ever:
the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

            When we begin to feel alone, inadequate, or afraid of what lie ahead, we must remember just who it is that is our Lord and Savior.  He promises to never leave or forsake us.

I AM is With You

I am wherever your feet trod.
I am your world, you belong to God.
I am the One that saved you by grace.
I am the One that on the tree took your place.
I am walking before you, behind, and above.
I am your foundation, I am love.
You are loved by I AM,
You are walking in my plan.
You are walking with eyes that see,
The Spirit of God is leading thee.
Your eyes of faith see God is on your side.
Your faith knows your God also reigns inside.
Your life is precious in His sight.
You are indeed His delight.
So walk in faith with a knowing that whatever comes,
Is in the divine knowledge of God’s Son.
Jesus’ name on your lips holds power.
He is your total strength in the world’s last hours.
So go forth knowing I AM is in control.
If you are not stopped then in confidence go.
Love is with you in every trial and tribulation you face.
You are in His care and in His loving embrace.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God,

What Can Be Done By Brenda Drake

            It feels like an onslaught of hard, confusing, threatening things have bombarded our world. What we want and what we believe is right is seemingly about to be torn out of our grasp.  We begin to feel pushed down and become angry, fearful or depressed. We wonder in such trying times what can be done and what can we do?

What Can be Done?

When dominated pushed down and overpowered
Enthusiasm is cooled down and desires are soured.
Dreams vanish in the cloud filled day.
Words hard to hear are too hard to process and cast away.
Like bullies on the playground terrorizes the terrified,
Constant is the onslaught to keep fears alive.
Like the cold breath of winter curls soft petals and they die,
In the new environment they are not encouraged to survive.
Troubling woes and predictions with convictions heavy stance,
Weight down the spirit so it will not sing or dance.
What can be done in the world’s hard times?
How can peace, joy, hope, and faith again surface in heart and mind?
With praise, prayer and the Word positive and true;
Lift them up and Gods lifts you to victoriously in your environment move.
Listen to the sweet sounds of assurance… God is in control.
Heed words of faith, and wisdom that uplifts your soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you,
to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Desperate for Your Touch By Brenda Drake

            I can hardly wait to spend my morning time with my Lord.  I get my cup of coffee, by bible and notepad ready to get into the presence of God.  When my routine is interrupted and I am unable a few days to do as accustomed I find I am almost desperate to get back on track.

Desperate for Your Touch

My soul is desperate for Your touch,
It seems I can never get enough.
I fill up to overflow
With the nourishment of my soul,
But still I have a great desire within.
With all I am I yearn for more of Him.
When my thoughts stray to mundane things,
I am jealous of the time spent away from my King.
When worry and the troubling sounds of life,
Pull my attention away from Jesus Christ;
Again I am desperate to get back on track,
And from the world’s clamor I turn my back.
My heart reaches up frantic for Him,
Only to remember He also dwells deep within.
I settle in to my secret place,
Ready to receive His loving embrace.
Here I am Lord use me today.
Be with me in my attitudes in all I do and say.
And when I get tired and weary from my toil,
And in my desperation I again seek Your anointing oil,
Allow me to return in repentance like the prodigal son.
I know by faith my Heavenly Father toward me runs.

Heart-loving Sounds Brenda Drake

Words of hate and division are on every side. Discouraging or brow-beating confrontations are almost a constant barrage upon our souls.  It is a great comfort when we experience the true, positive, love of God as get into the Word of God.  As we develop a personal relationship with the Lover of our Soul in our times of quiet, when we are still we will surely enjoy His heart-loving sounds.

Heart Loving Sounds


Heart-loving sounds in a world that spins and shouts,
Calls us to rest in God and to not fear or doubt.
His voice whispers loud enough for us to hear;
Encouraging in His desire for us to draw near.
The One that gives us air to breathe and the sun to shinessssss
Calls in loving-sounds; Come and rest for you are Mine.
I am your refuge in the stormy day.
I am the Light-house that shows the Way.
I am the Hightower and the guard at the door.
You can place your trust in Me for I am the Lord.
I am the Door to your future, in you I delight.
Come I am the song of peace that assures all will be all right.
The enemy that threatens do not listen to him.
For he is an intruder do not allow him in.
You are equipped with the power to stop his onslaught for you see,
He hates it when you make heart-loving-sounds back to Me.
Your praise and worship sounds like clanging in his ear.
Praise and worship chases evil away as God’s presence draws near.

Free to Fly By Brenda Drake

            One of the very first Psalms that spoke loud to me was Psalms 91.  I love the way it speaks to bring faith and comfort of my Fathers promised care and love.  This poem explains exactly how and why I love to cozy up with God in my secret place.

Free to Fly

Nesting under the wings of love secure and safe,
Born to flourish in a world tainted with sin and hate,
Soft thoughts calm heart, soul, and mind,
With a deep knowing you are with God aligned.
The winds and hard rains of life swirl around,
With loud, hurtful, threatening sounds.
But the voice you listen to speaks,
Songs of Salvation that instills sweet peace.
Under God’s wing you are nourished by the Word.
The more you eat the more growth occurs.
You are not always anxious to try your wings and fly,
For you are comfortably secure, safe and dry.
But there is something you need to see.
You are able to fly because I am inside of thee.
Never are you out of My shelter and out from My cover.
I am your world, your Savior, Father and soul lover.
You are free to fly as the Spirit gives you wing;
As you go know I give you a heart that sings.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;

A Strange Thing Occurs By Brenda Drake

There are times when life and its complications cause a certain dread, especially when there seems to be no clear answers in sight. The best remedy is to go to the Word of God to be reminded God is not caught off guard and we can and must trust He loves us and is in complete control.

A Strange Thing Occurs

Father the world is talking loud threats,
Of sure difficulties that lies ahead.
My heart hurts at the loss I see on every side;
From financial strain and for families and for them who die.
Confusing, mind-blowing whistle-blowing words circle and attack.
It seems there are very little we can know are facts.
In my quiet times when I travel to God’s Word,
A very strange and wonderful thing occurs,
My heart is settled as in your care I rest.
Again I find the truth and it again I confess.
My God is able and on Him I depend;
All things on earth and in heaven bows down to Him.
I am firmly in His sight and on His mind.
My God loves to spend with me time.
Life’s complications are handled in the way best,
So the outcome of it all will turn for the best.
He is in control and it is already written what will come,
So in Jesus name I pray. Lord thy will be done.
In my life and in the world that seems to be in such chaos and whoa,
I will listen instead to the Spirit that brings peace and confidence to my soul.

Isaiah 26:3-4
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
 Trust ye in the Lord for ever:
for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me;
my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Set Your Mind to Victory By Brenda Drake

There are times I am victorious even when I do not feel victorious; perhaps the answer to my prayer does not happen the way I want but the problem is solved in a whole different way.  Jesus is in control.  We are victorious when we trust He is working things out the way best.  Our mind is victorious when we keep it on Jesus and not on our problem. He is the One that fights all our battles, and He is our strength within.

Set Your Mind to Victory

Set your mind to victory in whatever you face.
Victory comes when God’s Word is embraced.
It may look a bit different when the time comes,
But it unmistakably is a victorious answer done.
Victory has endurance in its grasp.
Victory looks ahead in faith and refuses to look back.
Victory is not always carrying a prize at the end,
But victory is a banner that is carried within.
Jesus is the strength that girds you up strong.
Jesus is the reason and the tune of your love song.
He is the goal to reach and the prize at the end.
You are victorious if you completely rely on Him.
Set your mind to victory; allow God’s promise to reign supreme.
All is well when victory reigns in your being.
God is stronger than any enemy you may behold.
He hears your prayers and draws into His fold.
Your heart is readied and steadied sure and true.
Not only is your mind set to win the winner lives in you.
Set your trust in the hands of the One you adore.
Remember victory belongs to the Lord.

Handled With God By Brenda Drake

            I wonder how I handled life without God’s help.  I now know I do not carry life’s burdens all by myself.  Whatever I face God is on my side and He is always as close as a prayer.  He is my strength and a very present help in time of trouble.

Handled With God

Climbing a mountain or riding waves hard and high;
That both takes great effort cannot be denied.
In your life both are true;
But the secret to success is who is traveling with you.
With God’s strength, faith, and peace reigning within;
The journey goes much better with Him.
The mountain of circumstances; with the walls of depression and fear,
With faith in God’s help the mountain may just disappear.
Those terrible waves of life; with things seemingly out of control,
With its turmoil and chaos that overtakes the soul;
All are handled with more grace with God at your side.
In fact upon His Word you can safely ride.
Then when the storms rage and you seek God’s face,
When He says “Peace be still” the raging’s threat is erased..
Do your best in any situation. Rejoice you do not travel life alone.
Trust your God and Savior to safely bring you home.

Move On By Brenda Drake

            In our troubled world, with it contrary winds that blow against what we want, desire and believe as true we may become discouraged with our life and become weary in our well-doing.  We get side-tracked and lose sight of our kingdom-goals and purposes. We need to do three things; get back into the presence of our Lord and the Bible; then with His strength and new purpose move to get up
and carry on. 

Move On

When you have rested awhile in the presence of the Son,
And He has restored your inner smile in light of all He has done.
Then it is time to pick up your bed
To move on to the place the Spirit paves ahead.
When you have been freed from the heavy burden on your back,
And the light shines bright upon your path.
It’s time to walk on with purpose to your step.
Move on to the opened door; God is not finished with you yet.
Move on with confidence I lead the way.
Move on with assurance God plans your every day.
When the clouds cover the land with its discouraging sounds,
Rejoice in the knowledge you walk on Holy ground.
Angels watch over you and gives strength when you are weak.
They give muscle to the words you for God’s kingdom speaks.
You are ready and willing and God makes you able to do,
All He has ordained; all you need to do is move.
