Small excerpt from Waves of Comfort by Brenda Drake
I remember as a young child standing in my room at my grandmother’s house, looking up to the heavens and saying, “God if you are really there why don’t you talk to me?” I listened but I did not hear a thing. Many years later, after I had asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior and had invited Him into my heart, I heard God speak! I was sound asleep and I heard “God is Love; Jesus is forgiveness.” I woke up immediately. I was so excited – I knew it was God! I then woke my husband and repeated the wonderful message God spoke to me (my husband surely thought I had gone crazy). I wrote it down in a little book. I was so thrilled… not only could I talk to God but God would speak to me! Much later after the Holy Spirit taught me to listen I received this poem. It reminded me that when I was a child, I called out that I wanted to hear His voice. God had heard me! I just could not hear Him.
There was a small girl child with eyes open wide to see. She called out to the heavens to a word from God receive. She challenged me to listen and to speak to her clear, However she did not have a heart able to hear. Many years went by and I called out to her many times. One fine day her heart with truth aligned, It still took her a while to rest enough to hear my voice. Now the little child can daily draw near so her heart can rejoice.
John 10’27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Seemingly impossible situations feel like a weight within. Even when nothing has outwardly changed our hearts are relieved from heaviness when we lift them up in prayer. Our faith is rewarded as we trust and give thanks. It is impossible to please God without faith.
Faith Filled Prayers
When circumstances stand large in silent threat, Do not despair, good from God expect. In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, things can change, It is not a hard thing for God to arrange. Take one day at a time, do what you know to do. Walk with steady step following the One leading you. Myriads of angelic activity surround your life, In the spiritual realm there is a fight. Pray for God’s will, but do not worry about it. Trust and rely on God’s Word; choose to never to doubt it. Life is beautiful, the simple things enjoy. Seek ye first God’s kingdom and added is extra joy. Your heart’s desire is as plain as day to God above. He is the dream planter, He is God of love. God is not by your circumstances caught unaware, Believe His love, lift up faith-filled prayers.
Galatians 5:5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
We are living in uncharted times where there are many different opinions on the ways we need to handle the myriads of issues on hand. It is most assuredly a time where we get fearful, confused, and distrustful of the motives of those around us. I am not downplaying the gravity of our world’s condition nor am I condemning our natural human emotions. I am instead suggesting we place our trust in God and His love for us. He is not out of control. He is the Truth, Life, and The way. Allow Him to bring comfort and peace to your heart and mind; and trust in His ability to guide us.
Fear, Distrust, and Confusion- The Terrible Three
Fear, distrust, and confusion- the terrible three; They thrive on division, strife, and uncertainties. Perfect love casts out fear. Trust in God’s love and wisdom and truth appears. Fear paralyzes the heart and causes hardness to occur within. It freezes the mind’s ability to comprehend. Confusion gathers and spreads its poison, and positions itself to fight; Without full vision of what is wrong or right. The mind that stays on Christ will see clear, That He is the God of love and peace and will chase away your fear. The heart that trusts God fills up with the Word. They receive the blessings of His provision and confusion is curbed. As a clear heart and the mind agree; the light shows the way; A clear path for the faithful as they against the “terrible three pray” Fear, distrust, and confusion are brought in prayer to Christ. He is the lifter of your head and He your battle fights.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 Corinthians 14:43 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Proverb 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
It used to feel like a battleground at night for me to get some sleep. I was so fearful; I would say my repetitive prayers over and over till I fell to sleep. I prayed but I had no real faith or knowledge of the great love of Jesus. When I began to learn of His faithfulness, and I began to have faith to trust Him, I was able to get a full night sleep. There is rest to those who trust in God.
Peace and Trust
A truer word is never said, God watches for His children’s benefit. There is no greater love than, God’s love for man. The ones saved by grace, Are drawn into a closer embrace. God does not turn His gaze away, He plans carefully each and every day. God provides for every need that comes. He molds and shaped till His masterpiece is done. If the redeemed could but see, They would truly rest in peace. Their destination is planned with glory untold. It shines more than silver and is much more lustrous than gold. The trusting heart will learn valuable lessons in life, Without the added burden of bitterness and strife; For if they know their God cares. And that He is a God that is just and fair. Evil done to them will not unnoticed go, For God is a defender of innocent souls. When you trust because you belong to His Son; Even more at peace you become.
Psalms 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee
Love spoke into darkness and there was light Love speaks into your dark place to give new insight Love spoke into existence the world, the moon and stars He speaks to your world …He knows where you are Love from the cross saw the great need of your soul A special place in His heart you hold Love gave His life so you can His love speak He has given His Word to the heart that seeks Love washes you white as new fallen snow His shed blood has made the redeemed new and whole Love speaks encouragement and will lift and edify Love speaks in so many ways to water the soul parched and dry Love has a name Jehovah …God that supplies all you need His name is Jesus that saves the one that believes His name is Wonderful…. King of Kings Love speaks into a life and makes it able to His praises sing
Gen 1:2-3 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The trouble with troubles is they are cumbersome and boggle the heart and mind. The Word tells us to not let our hearts be troubled. God has all things in His control. A troubled heart does not successfully sing praises, for joy has fled.
The Trouble with Troubles
The trouble with trouble is the troubled mind, Is filled with irritating thoughts; not as God designed. The imagination stretches into every possible solution. It is not as God desires…it is mind pollution. Most of the time the answer you cannot see. You need to place your trust in me. The worrisome planning, and the what to do time spent, Is not profitable. From its toil repent. For when you cause to your head extra toil, The acid in your stomach causes it to spoil. Then you are unhappy in every way; The added stress of worry ruins your day. Praises are halted and joy has fled, All because you did not obey what the Word has said. Do you not know God is in control? He is on your side you have been told, All things turn for the best in the end; When you are His and He lives within. The trouble with troubles carried alone by yourself, Is they are heavy and you need some help. Remember, nothing is too hard for me my friend. Have faith and watch me take care of them.
Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of His countenance
2 Corinthians 1:2-4 Grace be to you and peace from God our father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort: Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
I trust the Lord with all my heart, sometimes I do not understand why things happen, but I believe the Word of God. My God is trustworthy. He is all I need according to His riches in glory. The wise will rest in His care.
Trust, a small word that encompasses much, As we examine its magnitude just a tip of it we touch. Trust does not strive to reach its goal. It is more like a rest that flows. Trust does not accuse and does not easily turn away. Trust stands firm and it cannot be swayed When God requests trust He desires us to believe; Even in harsh times; no matter how desperate the need. Trust is not based on perfect knowledge of all things. It is grounded on the reliability of the Most-high, risen King. Trust is unable to survive In the same vessel worry or fear abides. For worry is the opposite emotion- it testifies distrust. To truly glorify God, to renounce anxiety is a must. Trust will expect the best, marching forward without pause. Trust will rejoice in truth and integrity of God’s laws. To trust your God and His ability and might Is the greatest wisdom your soul can delight.
Psalms 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
I remember my mom when she would say as I was corrected for disobeying her, “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you, but it is for your own good.” I didn’t believe her just as my children didn’t believe me when I said the same thing to them. This poem expresses the Father’s heart concerning reprimand and correction.
The Word Reprimand
Reprimand corrects and warns, to turn away from wrong. If it is done in love it will not hurt as long. To be reprimanded by God is much the same. I warn to turn away from the path of shame. When reprimanded you need to be aware, It is because you have a God that cares. When corrected, you will need to understand, That it is administered by God’s loving hand. When you have been asked not to do certain things, If you disobey, you know it deep within your being. I ask always in love, I correct the same. Punishment may seem harsh but God’s love is proclaimed. For the consequences would be even more disastrous for thee, If you are not stopped you could be destroyed by the enemy.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Revelations 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Psalms 89:32-33 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
When your heart is hurting come, Enjoy the holy presence of God’s Son. The loving touch of the Holy Comforter Will heal and fix your inner hurts. When heavily walked upon and joy has fled, Come allow the Comforter to show you how to forgive. When confused and you do not know the way to go, Allow the Word to guide you – so you can in the Spirit flow. I fill hearts with gladness and mind with truth and power; And with love in the world’s most troubling hour. Waves of comfort flow to you and through you to lift and to edify. Surges of God’s goodness are your eternal supply. Beauty for the ashes, mourning is by joy replaced, All are provided by God’s provision of grace. Waves of God’s mercy flood the land, Overflowing those who seek to understand. Great, abundant, heavy showers of love, Come from the Lord above Whatever you need and desire that is well and fine, Will be provided in God’s time. Come allow the Holy Spirit to touch, You in your deepest place, with His waves of love.
2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
We have a tendency to look at how far we need to go to be like Jesus. The evil one is sure to point out everything that does not measure up. Our worth needs to be seen by the light of the Word of God. When we allow God’s truth inside, it indeed will set us free. The truth is God loved us before we loved Him. Jesus died to set us free from the bondage of sin. The truth is…. Grace saves us, not our own goodness. We are saved by Jesus’s work on the cross, not by our own works of the flesh. When we compare ourselves with others, we may come away feeling condemned and greatly lacking. When we measure ourselves by the sacrifice on our behalf, we will know that God loves every person with the same passion. We do not need to feel inferior or jealous of another again.
The Measure That Is True
Measure yourself not by others, but from where you have come. Do not look at another to see how well you have done. For always, you will see the example that makes you feel small. The most important thing is God loves all. You are just as large in His sight as the one you so admire. You are dressed in the very same attire. The same robe of righteousness was placed upon each back. When you have accepted Jesus, you have no lack. Measure what you are by the only measure that is true. The measure of your worth is the work of the One that died for you. In the Father’s eyes, He sees you tall and pure. There is no need to fear when you are in God secured. See how far you have come – the great changes that have taken place. The old man is no more; you are born anew under grace. Love one another and appreciate how far they have come too. Be glad and rejoice for you both in the same Spirit move.
Ephesians 4:4-7 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
