Fisher of Men By Brenda Drake

            I am not a fisherman, but my heart thrilled at Jesus’ invitation for His disciples to become a fisher of men.  Somehow I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.

Fisher of Men

Fishing can be a lot of fun;
Relaxing for the old and exciting for the young.
It takes a little preparation; but the most important thing,
Is to have the right bait more than anything.
The fishing the Lord desires us to do,
Attracts others to the water that holds promise for you.
The heart that hungers for souls will do well;
For they draw by the life-testimony they tell.
All people have a need deep within;
To be saved from the desperate death-hold of sin.
Come, let us go fishing allow your day to be,
Mindful of souls that are hungry and seeking to be free.
Throw out the truth (the life-line) to them.
It is done by living what you believe and by being a friend.
Be ready always to share the good news of Christ;
Be always a willing, living sacrifice.
Come, this is the day perhaps for a big catch,
I will go with you for I know right where they’re at.

Matthew 4:19
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

We Can Please God By Brenda Drake

Families have a special love and bond with each other; but problems arise and feelings get hurt.  It seems that you cannot at times do anything to please some people.  God understands our dilemma but He still tells us to turn the other cheek!

We Can Please God

When you try to please everyone you will find,
It is rarely possible and most of the time,
You become irritable deep within,
And are not happy with yourself or with them.
You must say right and continue on the path of good,
For God asks always to do as you should.
You are not to treat others as they treat you,
For even the heathen this work can do.
Your hurting heart must die to the pain of self.
This is in service to your Lord; He promises to help.
The Word says to pray for those that despitefully use you;
You indeed need the Holy Spirit’s help to this do.
To love your enemy: to turn the other cheek;
To remain kind, gentle, and to uplifting words speak.
You cannot please everyone all of the time,
But you can please God when with the Word you align.
Your love and prayers in another’s behalf will much good do.
And one day they may even testify and give thanks to you.

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Melancholy Flower By Brenda Drake

Our lives have many different stages.  I relate the different places as flowers, I have had times of being compared to a torn-flower, a formidable-flower, and also a melancholy-flower.  No matter what time or stage of our life we all need the love and prayer of the observant servant of God.  I am thankful God never gave up on me, and grateful for those that included me in their prayer requests.

Melancholy Flower

Melancholy flowers live in the dark place,
Rarely do you see them face to face.
For they wear masks of different kind,
They blend in with their surroundings most of the time.
They will be in lonely corners silently enduring life;
Unwilling and unable to truly feel things right.
They are deep and yet shallow in life’s touch,
Not seeking for or speaking of much.
Hope sounds like a fable and faith does too,
They are not the kind of flower your heart moves to.
Melancholy flowers are not as easy to find,
For they have the ability to be hard to define.
But if you allow Me to help, I see them well,
I know their name and know where they dwell.
I will reveal them to you so you for them pray.
So in God’s mercy they come to stay.
Pray for joy to enter in so light will come,
Pray the melancholy spirt is drawn to God’s Son.
Now they are trapped into a dark place,
But with prayer they may be caught-away, reborn in grace.

Psalms 40:1-3
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto
