Peace in the Gloom By Brenda Drake

I have a tendency to overthink, trying to fix or figure out everything on my own.  I am not that smart or that strong.  I will never be able to carry the burdens and trials of my life alone and I really do not want to; it is so much easier to lean on the Lord and to rest in His strength and ability.

Peace in the Gloom
by Brenda Drake

Sometimes my eyes are clouded; circumstances block the sun,
And I find I am full of doubt and fear become.
My heart is weighed down and depressed,
And negative seems to be what I confess.
Dark shadows loom, and evil taunts fill the air,
And of all life’s dangers I am so aware.
I cannot help another in this terrible state I know,
So Lord I ask for You to be in control.
I admit my sin of worry and anxiety,
I need and request help to Your way see.
The day may still be dark and overcast the same,
But I am able to envision things differently, my faith reclaimed.
When I lay down my burdens at the foot of the cross,
Fear and worry’s threats are lost.
I am visited with the sure wondrous provision of peace,
The sunshine within is increased.
I thank You Lord for allowing songs of praise to touch my lips,
And for giving me the strength to the enemy’s taunts of gloom resist.

Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

A Strange Thing Occurs By Brenda Drake

There are times when life and its complications cause a certain dread, especially when there seems to be no clear answers in sight. The best remedy is to go to the Word of God to be reminded God is not caught off guard and we can and must trust He loves us and is in complete control.

A Strange Thing Occurs

Father the world is talking loud threats,
Of sure difficulties that lies ahead.
My heart hurts at the loss I see on every side;
From financial strain and for families and for them who die.
Confusing, mind-blowing whistle-blowing words circle and attack.
It seems there are very little we can know are facts.
In my quiet times when I travel to God’s Word,
A very strange and wonderful thing occurs,
My heart is settled as in His care I rest.
Again I find the truth and it again I confess.
My God is able and on Him I depend;
All things on earth and in heaven bows down to Him.
I am firmly in His sight and on His mind.
My God loves to spend with me time.
Life’s complications are handled in the way best,
The outcome of it all in God’s will rests.
He is in control and it is written what will come,
So in Jesus name I pray. Lord Thy will be done.
In my life and in the world that seems to be in such chaos and whoa,
I will listen instead to the Spirit that brings peace and confidence to my soul.

Isaiah 26:3-4
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the Lord for ever:
for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:

The Distant Thunder By Brenda Drake

. We need not be afraid but I believe it is wise to be ready when the storms of life threaten us with all its uncertainties. We all need to hear the distant thunder and prepare. With God on our side we have nothing to fear.

The Distant Thunder

There is a great storm coming,
Hear the sound of distant thundering?
Prepare your house; is it built on foundation strong?
Are things in order where it belongs?
When the high winds come are you ready?
Can you withstand the blows hard and steady?
Is there unfinished business you need to attend?
Have you shut up the house with the enemy within?
Is there a good supply food and water to drink that’s pure?
Has your larder been kept clean and secure?
The storm is coming…. make a foundation check
Have you asked Jesus to forgive you and to save you yet?
If so you must renounce the dirty things that stain,
Do not allow any known sin to remain.
For the enemy will steal away every ounce of joy and peace within,
And will taint the good food and water with sin.
Guard the doors with prayer in the power of Jesus’ name.
The Holy Spirit will assist so your life securely remains.
The storms are real but prepared hearts will survive.
For the love and power of Jesus keeps them alive.

Psalms 81:7
Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Look Out, Look up, Listen and Look Within By Brenda Drake

I remember well the day of salvation and the way the colors of life became so much brighter. Now the beauty of God’s handiwork speaks louder of the love that always was whispering my name. Everywhere and in every situation there is a place to hear and see God’s affection and provisions for His redeemed.

Look Out, Look up, Listen and Look Within

Lakes, rivers, or streams invite to enjoy the view.
As you look out at the beauty shared with you.
Remember God that made and put it all on display.
Allow creation’s soothing peace to enhance your day.
As you take away its comfort and store it within,
Look up to the Living Water and give praise to Him.
The sky in its vastness calls to marvel at its space,
Allow it to draw you into its embrace.
Your God fills it with life:
Each breath you take is His delight.
Allow yourself to listen,
To creation’s whispered affection.
Hear the voice of God speak
In a songbird, a flower’s aroma, and in autumn’s leaves.
Gaze into the eyes of those that your lives touch.
Look deep and you may see the reflections of God’s love.
When you are filled with the wonder of His mercy and His grace;
Look deep inside and there you will also see God’s face.

Psalms 19:1-3
The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
 Day unto day uttereth speech,
and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language,
where their voice is not heard.

Ephesians 3:14-19
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,  Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Come to the River By Brenda Drake

Although I am unable to swim I love to be near water.  There is a certain undefinable peace that brings comfort to the soul. There is no greater peace than the day we go to the River of Life, for then the Living water flows from within.

Come to the River

Come to the River; take a drink from its sweet flow.
It will renew and refresh your soul
Replace the cup of bitterness for the gift of grace,
Dip into its healing waters that heal in its embrace.
Allow the the air of perfection to surround you like a cloud.
Permit the joy of a saved soul to in praise cry aloud.
Allow the heartbeat of God to beat deep inside.
Come to the clear waters to reside.
Travel with the Most High offer your life to Him.
Return often to the healing waters again and again.
Keep eyes open for another that needs strength of soul.
Lead them to the One that makes new and whole.
God’s love is constant, so great is the supply.
It flows forever and is always nearby.
In Jesus is the River, as you live your life for Him;
You will never thirst in your soul for the River flows within.

Psalms 36:8-9
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light

John 7:37-38
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
