Today’s Sunshine By Brenda Drake

I am learning that even on my off-days when I put my mind on God and all He has done for me, my spirit lifts and I again can see the sunshine in my day.

Today’s Sunshine

Even on a day when you are glum,
If you desire to seek, you will see the sun.
Today’s sunshine is there,
Its beauty will unfold if you are aware.
Every day has its sunshine; even amidst the pain,
When you look, it shines even in the rain.
Today’s sunshine has rays of hope – of a sunny future ahead,
It lights the truth of what God has said.
He walks ahead of us and covers our sin,
We have an eternal joy; all because of Him.
He calls us His beloved, with great abundance He provides,
He says no matter what we go through in Him we abide.
The cloudy day, the sorrowful, and the lonely are all the same;
If I choose, in its gloom I need not remain.
All I need to do is bow my head in prayer,
And I’ll see today’s sunshine is already there.
The joy of His countenance heals and restores my soul.
His peace and assurance floods and overflows.
Sweet rays of favor sent from heaven above;
Proving today God’s Son shines upon me His love.

But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head Psalms 3:3

Frustrated Freda (Do You Recognize Them Within?) By Brenda Drake

New book Do You Recognize Them Within? Divided into two powerful chapters: Are They Hiding? And  Good Friends to Keep Around.. Each poem offers a glimpse into how thoughts and behaviors affect our spiritual walk. Some characters challenge us to change, others inspire us to grow. All help you see yourself, and God’s transforming love, more clearly

Frustrated Freda

You may not recognize the name
But you have met her, I am sure.
She runs about trying to,
Fix and to make pure
Just when she thinks,
All is well, it’s not!
Right before her eyes,
She sees another spot.
Why can’t things stay clean?
It is such a waste;
It seems as if everywhere,
There is chaos disgrace.
She is tired and weary,
But what else can she do?
The whole world is a mess,
(You know it is true!)
So, anxious and upset
She continues, and she will stay,
So frustrated she does
Not enjoy her day.
But Jesus waits patiently for her
To admit defeat and her sin.
Then she is given a new name
As she rests in Him.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.(1 Peter 5:6-7)

The Contradiction By Brenda Drake

Whisper: Things of the world does not make sense to the wise.

The Contradiction

When angry they say you see red,
When jealous they say you are green,
When life seems good through rose colored glasses are seen.
When in trouble they say you’re in a pickle.
When in a rut you are stuck in the mud.
Blackness shows great despair and white implies pure and good.
Owl are wise, eagles depicts strength and power,
Some appetites hunger for the sweet and sour.
The proud are exalted, the weak rejected.
The rich given more and the poor are neglected.
The powerful are praised and their sin cleverly hid;
And the world refuses to feel the hurt of the under privileged.
Most are contradictions; nothing makes much sense,
When things are not as the Word has said.
Anger, jealousy, fear, hate, and pride,
Are black and dark when held inside.
Trouble, depression, and unwilling to see the pain others are in,
Are also black and dark when held within.
Owls are not wise, the eagle not at all as mighty as man
Portrays it, for it does not even its high position understand.
The sinfully-rich are desperately poor.
Their sins are clearly seen by the Lord.
The poor man’s cry reaches God’s ear,
To Him their lives precious and dear.
To see life grandly and to the truth understand,
It’s not through rose colored glasses – it’s as God has planned.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! Romans 11:33

Thanksgiving List By Brenda Drake

What have I to thank God for this day we set aside?
First, I can thank Him that I am alive;
I have a family and I have close friends.
Surely we can give thanks to Him.
If there is a roof over our head we are not on the streets like some,
If we’ve food on our table enough for everyone,
If we live in a Country that still is free to express,
Our  love for God and His ways confess,
If we’ve feet to walk on and arms to raise,
And eyes to see, ears to hear, and a voice to give praise,
When we know Jesus and can read His Word,
And can freely express all we’ve heard,
There is a bright shining future promised when we believe,
And a love that will endure through eternity,
I must give thanks for all my blessings on this special day,
And I must remember to sing His praise.
What else do I have to thank God for?
I could add to this list much, much more!

Psalms 30:4
Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks  at the remembrance of his holiness

Attitudes are Like the Clothes we Wear By Brenda Drake

In your closet you will see some of your very favorite
clothes – but you may only wear them on special occasions.|
Everyday clothes you put on without thought – they are just there and are convenient.
Some that you know fit you perfectly…. they are so comfortable you automatically and often put them on There are a few that you feel look the best on you… the colors or the style is very flattering.

Attitudes are like the clothes you wear;  some are put on or taken off because of the atmosphere around you.  (The heavy winter coat that is a blessing may feel like a curse in the heat.)

Attitudes are like the clothes you wear.  Most of us have a variety to choose from and it is our preference what we desire to put on.
Attitudes are like clothes we choose to wear. They can be comfortable, convenient, or necessary: some tattered old favorites and some just to be worn out in public.

Just like a much worn shirt needs to be cleansed – so do our attitudes.  Just like our clothes need to be repaired and mended… so do our attitudes.

Attitudes are like the clothes we wear.  What is your favorite attitude you wear in public?  What attitude do you wear most around the house?  When the winds or storms of life blow… what attitude do you put on?  Anger?  Fear?  Anxiety? Bitterness?  What is the attitude that you feel that looks best on you?  Which one fits your desire most?

If attitudes are like the clothes we wear… some of us need a whole new wardrobe!

Jesus has the perfect clothes prepared.  He clothes us in His robe of righteousness.  He is the One that will help cleanse our attitudes to glorify Him.

My prayer:  Lord put on me your goodness, and help me to remember to come often to the Living Water for a healthy drink of your love.  Help me also to remember that while I’m  there I need to clean up my attitudes too.  Here I am Lord cleanse me I pray.

You Healed Me Like By Brenda Drake

Page 23 Waves of Comfort by Brenda Drake

Insecurities plagued me.  I could easily see all that was wrong with me.  I was learning all that Jesus has done for me on the cross.  The holy scriptures are teaching me some beautiful truths of His wondrous love and kindness toward those that Jesus died for.

You Healed Me Like

Just as the man in the Bible was touched so he could see,
Jesus did the same thing for me.
My eyes were opened so I could recognize
The provision of His sacrifice.
Like the deaf man was healed back then,
My ears were opened so the truth entered in.
The truth about Jesus I understood.
Thank You Lord that now my hearing is good.
Like the healing in the Scriptures of the man dumb,
My mouth is able to sing the praise of God’s Son.
I like the lame man can now walk on God’s path.
No longer am I helpless, flat on my back.
My God leads me now step by step.
I am learning fast but I am not running yet.
Like the once crippled man picked up his bed long ago,
I pick up my cross to follow the way I need to go.
All the examples of healing done back then
Is performed in all that are born again.
I marvel when Lazarus raised from the dead,
That received life at the words Jesus said.
I can almost picture it was me,
I was once bound – but now I am free.
I am born anew…. The old me is no more,
For I have been healed as I abide in my Lord.
I am now a seeing, hearing child of the King,
Walking forward, loving to His praises sing.
