He Reaches Out By Brenda Drake

Our Lord is always attempting to touch us with His hand of mercy and heart of Grace. In the beauty of creation He reaches out to us, and on the cross He bore our every sin so He could forever touch our soul.

He Reaches Out

He reached out to me before I was born.
He desired my love before I was formed.
Strange, but wonderfully true,
As He reached out to me; He also reached out to you.
On the cross… terrible, was His agony.
In this troubled place, He reached out to you and to me.
He saw our every sin, and, He died for each and every one.
Then, He motioned to us to follow Him, when He was done.
His holy work was finished; He waited for the appointed time,
When He called my name, I reached out, and invited Him inside.
There are many special times when I’ve felt His touch;
When I lift up my heart in worship… He lifts me up.
In times of worry, and times of stress,
When I, lift up my prayer requests,
He takes the problem that weights me down,
And then, He pulls me to higher ground.
Even in times of anger, trials, or fear,
In just a breath of praise, He draws near.
His loving, hand of mercy, and His wonderful, firm embrace,
Draws me even closer; when I seek His face.
He also reaches out to me through others …it is strange indeed,
Because we are so close, when it happens; it is, His embrace. I receive!

I John 4:10-11
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

I Choose By Brenda Drake

         We have ample opportunities to get down-in-the-dumps, allowing worldly circumstances to take away the joys of our salvation. We all have a choice to fear evil is in charge or to be confident our Lord is in full control.  I choose to have faith in God’s goodness and want to think on the good things in life.

I Choose

I choose to see the sunshine above the clouds of life.
I choose to see the workings of the Spirit as I follow Christ.
In the midst of evil I seek to see;
The soul that the Good News needs
The tactics of the enemy are not hid from my sight,
But my choice is to rely on the plans of the God of right.
The world proves daily why I hate its taste more and more.
And it gives me a greater hunger for the Word of the Lord.
In the blackness of sin and shame and its dark foreboding ways,
I choose to trust and rely on God and continue to sing His praise.
Yes I am a dreamer and choose to look through eyes of faith.
I am my God’s beloved and for His return I wait.
But until then I will diligently follow after the Light,
For even in the dark world His love shines bright.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Dirtying the Image of Grace By Brenda Drake

How silly it is to say one thing and yet do another.  We do it all the time.  We profess Jesus and yet act like the world. Help us Lord to not grieve the Spirit by dishonoring the image of grace.

Dirtying the Image of Grace

Washing one hand but eating with the other,
The full silliness of the action is left undiscovered.
What this illustration shows to the wise,
Will be hard to see with blinded eyes.
The repented life with lips their sins profess,
But by their continued actions what is believed is confessed.
One washed clean with new attire,
While playing in the world’s muddy mire,
May beckon sad, weary, sin-sick souls who are lost,
To follow after them to find hope at the cross.
It is very difficult for them to trail after you
When they see you are very dirty too.
You are a Christ-follower with Him now as one,
Although you are not perfect you can show God’s Son.
But you must never attempt to show His face;
By dirtying the image of His grace.
Clean and pure living renounces the world’s sins.
Do not compromise by partaking and wading in.
You become a light another can truly see.
A proper reflection of all God fashions you to be.

1 Peter 1:14-16
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Think of the Miracle that took Place By Brenda Drake

I have had some amazing things happen in my life.  Some, I believe are miracle material.  It excites me to know that I serve a miracle working God.  The most wonderful phenomenon I have experienced is salvation, and the growth of the Lord inside of me.  He truly is my increase.

Think on the Miracle That Took Place

If you saw five loaves of bread and two fish multiplied to twelve baskets fill,
It would astound you and with wonder you would be filled.
It indeed would be a great miracle that took place in your sight,
But think about the true multiplication done by the Christ.
Thousands of hungry stomachs were also filled that day,
And there were still twelve baskets full left to give away.
As you think about the miracle that took place,
It pales in comparison when compared with God’s grace.
From the life of one, there are numbers too large to count that are saved.
From the life of one lifted on a cross… all sin debt was paid.
Because of one life offered to save man,
God’s truth can be heard as the Father planned.
Think about the miracle of the cross of shame;
The Bread broken for you took away all your blame.
The believing heart by faith stands,
Redeemed… a brand-new man.
Oh, what a wonderful sight to see;
The angels marvel at the change in thee.
From dark to light… from death to life,
What a wonderful work done in and through you by the work of Christ.
The life saved is then multiplied anew.
As you live for Him… the Bread of Life lives in you.
What a mighty miracle is done again,
You become the bread of life that God to another sends.

John 6:13-14
Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.  Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

Accomplishments By Brenda Drake

You made the meal and cleaned up the mess-
You count these as accomplishments.
But the greatest gift delivered to God on this day,
Was when you refused discouragement or to anger display.
When the day is over and you lay down to rest,
Know God has noted these as your greatest accomplishments.

Accomplishment

Your accomplishments you may not fully know yet,
They are the results of time well spent.
Loving communication, with hands busy at task,
They are the best gifts offered in fact.
Seeds are planted in the garden of love,
By open hospitality you honor God above.
When disappointment is for peace-sake placed aside,
You have displayed an attitude of Christ’s bride.
Every accomplishment is noted by the Lover of your soul.
They are written down; one day to be shown.
You truly have progress made;
When even in discomfort Christ was displayed.

Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him

Calm Your Troubled Sea By Brenda Drake

In tipsy-turvy-times, because of the churning in our spirit we sometimes feel we are unable to effectively pray.  It is simple to get back the peace previously enjoyed.  It takes a humble repented heart to admit self-assured ways and inability to go it alone.  When we trust God and pray in the name of Jesus, even if we still do not have all the answers, we are able to rest.

Calm Your Troubled Sea

A storm rages, there is a troubled sea,
Within, you are not calm or at peace,
Wrong emotions are bottled up within.
Thoughts are uncertain; blowing with the wind;
Tossed to one side, then to another,
Like in a rocking vessel but still seeking cover,
It is not a pleasant journey at all,
As you attempt to stand you stumble and fall.
This is not a word of rebuke as you might suppose,
It is a word to assure you, all things God knows.
What can be done about the trouble within?
Admit your attitude is indeed sin.
Admit your faith needs working on;
That you are weak – but God is strong.
As for the troubled waters about you;
Something can be done about that too.
He breaks the chains and bondages of sin,
Jesus’ love provides victorious restoration.
He deposits new authority to your new inner man.
He offers the use of His name to make your demands.
n Jesus name, declare troubled waters peace be still;
Perfectly fitting in the Father’s will.
The enemy surely continues to torment hearts that allow him too.
This need not be; heed the wisdom delivered to you.

John 16:23
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive,that your joy may be full.

Mark 4:39
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm

A Little Does Much By Brenda Drake

            The Creator made a tree fit into a little seed.  There is a harvest with every seed of kindness we plant in His kingdom work. Words are seeds, and actions are seeds too. I marvel when I think of His Word planted in our hearts, and the work He accomplished in our behalf on the cross.  I am overjoyed at His victory over death.  I am humbled at the realization He is still at work in heaven praying for us each day.

A Little Does Much

Just a ray of light helps the lost find,
The way out of darkness; leaving fear behind.
A word of encouragement makes the faint-hearted strong.
A smile of approval encourages someone along.
A reaching hand can pull from the miry clay.
All it takes is a little love and kindness to chase loneliness away.
A modest assistance can help the poor to lift his head.
A little hope offered can carry off someone’s dread
One life offered to do God’s work can accomplish much;
 Brokenness is made whole by their touch.
A planted seed brings great harvest in return.
Jesus is our harvest we did not earn
As a ray of sunshine your life can be.
Reach out and touch someone… be a light for Me

Romans 15:1-2
We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.  Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Matthew 5:14-16
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Written in Stone by Brenda Drake

The Ten Commandments were written in stone.  No one could successfully obey them without sinning.  Now Jesus has written His will on the walls of our heart as we stand on the rock solid promise of the truth of salvation written in the Word of God.

Written in Stone

You have heard “it is written in stone.”
Meaning its truth stands alone.
It will not change. What written down,
Is rock-solid truth that is sound.
The world may alter the Word to mean what they desire,
But it really has not changed what God requires.
The world may shun the Word stating it as untrue,
But it does not change the mind of the One who gave it to you.
The Word may be coined as old fashioned, outdated, or unnecessary,
But on the contrary they will always be.
When your name is written in the book of life,
There you stay because of the blood of Christ.
He is the Rock, He is the Law, He is the ransom paid,
So the one under the law’s penalty may be saved.
It is written in stone, and in the Father’s hand,
By the love of God; just as He has planned.
Written in stone… above every hearts door,
Marks the proof they are the possession and the work of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:7
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:  How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

As a Flowing Stream By Brenda Drake

I know what it felt like when I was lost and thirsty for the truth. I was dry unfruitful and very unsatisfied with life.  Now that I am filled with God’s Word, it feels like rivers of living-water flowing within me. I love to share the good news of God’s Word with others.

As a Flowing Stream

Streams of water flow down a hill
To another waterway fill.
The river flows on to another place,
Soaking parched soil along the banks.
On and on it distributes its life giving flow;
So the grass, flowers, and trees are able to grow.
This also is true of God’s care from above.
He flows into your life a river of His love.
Come to the banks of His goodness and drink some more,
Of the sweet-waters provided by your Lord.
Just as rivers flows onward, so must you my friend.
Continue to show others the way to Him.
To be one with God and to flow His way;
Drink-in God’s Word and its precepts obey
The more you consume, your flowing stream overflows
To share with others the truths you know

John 7:38
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Proverbs 18:4
The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Isaiah 58:11
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Blessed By Brenda Drake

        Sometimes we can get so caught up with the problems of the day: the bad news, the dire predictions, our financial situation, and our family and friends problems, we forget to count our blessings.  Really when we have Jesus, He is all we need.  We are indeed blessed,

Blessed

Blessed at my first glimpse of day,
Blessed as I bow my head to pray,
Blessed as I begin to unfold,
The Holy Scriptures that are more precious than gold.
I am filled with wonder at the beauty of such favor.
It is an eternal blessing that I savor.
My heart, mind, and emotion all come to rest,
At the holy place where I am blessed,
I take a deep breath of the peace supplied;|
Glad again that in Him I am alive.
My ears and eyes are opened for new direction to come;
With full assurance I am led by the Spirit to honor God’s Son.
I will rejoice and be glad at such favor in my life.
I will bring all praise and glory to the love of my life.
Jesus is the biggest blessing this heart could receive,
In Him, is all I crave for and all that I need.
Blessed in the morning, noon-day, and into the hours of night;
He is the biggest blessing in my life,
He is the light that enters and inside rests.
He has chased away all darkness and worry, this is why I am so blessed.

Hebrews 6:13-14
For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
