Do You Love Me? By Brenda Drake

     We profess our love for God, but when we turn away from someone in need, I believe Jesus would also need to ask us again.  Do you love me?

Do You Love Me?

Do you love me, asked the Master three times in one day.
Each time He heard the answer but He asked again anyway.
Each time He asked, Peter’s heart underlined his answer clear.
Jesus desired for Peter to his own heart hear.
When he said “Yes, I love you”
At first it was an automatic response… although true.
The next time he was very aware of his love professed.
But the last time he answered – his heart responded best.
“Feed my sheep” was the Master’s entreaty to Peter each time.
We too need to feed His sheep. For our love to be clearly defined;
We need to also love them, and take extra care,
To deliver the truth and to cover them with prayer.
To feed the sheep is to show respect and as a sacrifice of self;
Listen to them and when they have need… help
Whatever you do for the least of them you do for God above.
Do you love me is the question? How will you prove your love?

John 21:17
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Depressed Jess By Brenda Drake

   In our troubled uncertain times, cooped up; with threats of sickness, and possible financial difficulties, it is normal for us to feel a bit depressed.  This poem is a definite exaggeration of this emotion; when we allow life situations to keep us pressed down.  With Jesus on our side there is no need to carry depression as our title.  Don’t be a depressed Jess!  Be a best Jess!

Depressed Jess

Depressed Jess… Oh what a mess,
All he comprehends is unhappiness.
He walks with a dark cloud over- head.
All he sees are obstacles and all he feels is dread.
His smile points upside down.
His eyes do not look up in hope they look to the ground.
He walks with a heavy step and drags his feet.
He faces every problem or trial with utter defeat.
He sleeps many hours without attaining rest.
The day’s hours are like a sentence, because he’s so depressed.
His depression becomes a friend, and he begins to feel,
Only his outlook in life is true or real.
But he is deceived, the evil one lies to him;
His greatest enemy pretends to be his friend.
There is help for him – it is on the way;
Someone has recognized his plight and has begun to pray.
Depressed Jess has a choice.  He can choose to the Light see,
Or he can choose to continue to listen to the enemy.
If he listens to Jesus he must not in this place stay;
He must decide to change his ways.
Jess has a new name when he decides to depression fight.
Depressed Jess becomes the best Jess, the follower of Christ!

Proverbs 15:13
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow
of the heart the spirit is broken.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

See the Love of the Lord By Brenda Drake

It sometimes takes my breath away at the love of God that is revealed to me at strange times and in unexpected places.  I wonder how many missed opportunities I’ve missed in my sometimes too distracted day?

See the Love of the Lord

Have you in wonder gazed at the stars at night?
At the vastness of God do you delight?
Have you ever observed in the eyes of a child,
Reflections of God’s wisdom?  Did it cause you to smile?
If you try, out of the mouths of babes you may hear,
A message of our heavenly Father to reach your ear.
Have you ever marveled at the beauty at day’s start?
And ponder at the sweet peace that floods your heart?
There are times when you least expect, a thrill from within,
Renews your hopes and dreams again.
Love is surrounding you and holds on to you tight.
Love is always willing to share with you His light
Watch for signs of love to be more blessed than before.
In every place and situation behold the love of the Lord

Roman 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Alone? By Brenda Drake

He is alive and forever is with us in all we do.
So with all my heart I celebrate this day with you too.

Alone?

This day marks a day celebrated far and wide.
Our Savior is not dead, He is alive!
My heart is lifted in thanks and praise for all He has done.
Alone I sit, as I marvel in the truth of Jesus, God’s Son.
He died so we could with Him live.
Everything speaks of the Father’s love in all He did.
Jesus alone was crucified with our sins upon His back.
He alone the death penalty of every person packed.
Every person in every land, great, small, rich or poor,
Each man, woman, and child alone makes a decision about the Lord.
Is He who He says He is?  Did He do as He claimed?
Is this the Creator? Savior?  King of Kings? Is all power in Jesus’ name?
Yes! My heart cries out loud as I profess,
Jesus is alive and in Him I rest!
We may find in our celebrations, we are not spending it alone.
Just like the two disciples unaware had invited Him in their home.
He is alive and forever is with us in all we do.
So with all my heart I celebrate this day with you too.

Luke 24:29-31
But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.  And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.  And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Luke 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Take a Deep Breath By Brenda Drake

When we begin to feel the breathless threats of fear begin its attack, we need to breathe in God’s peace.  It is available at any time of day or night.  It may sound silly to some but I actually do take deep breaths of Him and breathe out fear, anxiety, and frustration.  God is good.  He is faithful to be our help in times of trouble.  He is in full control, what do we have to fear with Him on our side?

Take a Deep Breath

Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s peace.
Blow out all the worry and fear, so faith is increased.
Do this a few times more,
And you will feel the strength of the Lord.
Now set your face to the future; stare it hard in the face.
State with conviction you are firmly in God’s embrace.
Redeem the extra time you have; wisely it spend,
Thinking and doing, what is good to magnify your God again.
Look around at God’s blessing and look within too,
Give thanks and praise for all He has done for you.
Allow the songs of salvation to flood your soul;
Assuring and proving God is in control.
Search the Scriptures with a heart willing to see,
The promises and provisions God has delivered to thee.
Take a deep breath; breathe in love, peace and power,
That allows you to live fully in the world’s troubled hours.

Job 33:3-4
My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart:
and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
 The Spirit of God hath made me,
and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

What Time is it? By Brenda Drake

What Time is it?

Heavy hearts, awakened very early on that day;
Before, the light arrived in its morning display.
They remembered; with eyes opened wide,
The past events, when the Master was alive.
How can it be, that it is now time to attend
To the dead body, of their dear friend?
……….
What time is it? The modern one now asks on Easter morn;
Before the early service, when the sun-rise the sky adorns?
…………
One …had a heavy heart,
That made sad preparations at the days start.
The other has heart glad….in expectation they see
The stories unfold; that they have committed to memory.
They see by faith, the Angel that appeared.
The wonder of Jesus; brings them to grateful tears.
He has risen! Their songs fill the air.
The stones been rolled away, and no one is there!
By faith, their observance has brought it near.
The truth of God’s love again reappears.
………
What time is it is asked again?
As you start the day revived and renewed within.
Your Lord has risen! What have you to fear?
It is time to allow your life to show, the time is near,
For His return; when He gathers His faithful bride.
When the Father says, “Son, it’s time to draw her to your side”

Acts 1:11
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye

The Long Way Back By Brenda Drake

Before eyes were opened but then there was the long way back!

In our troubled times, when our lives are no where near being normal; when bad news seems is on every side, there is still the Good News of Christ’ victory over death. We must remember His wonderful gift of Salvation available to all who will but believe. Our Ressurection Sunday celebrations perhaps will have a different face this year. Even if we are unable to connect phyically with those we love; we can still honor our Lord by remembering all He accomplished to set us free from eternal death.

The Long Walk Back

With hearts sad, full of despair,
They walked away from Jerusalem; for Jesus was no longer there.
With hurting, heavy hearts they of Him spoke.
They shared with the listening stranger how their hearts broke.
As He broke the bread with them, they could then see,
The nail scared hands of the One, that was the Bread indeed.
The One that the fed multitudes was alive and well;
They willingly took the long walk back; to the others tell;
With hearts filled with wonder, and eyes wide with joy and surprise,
They testified to His followers the One they loved was not dead but alive!
The world has a deep hurt…. for many, hope has fled.
The past is a burden heavy, and they are afraid to look ahead.
They walk away from their dreams; conditioned to accept defeat and loss.
Then along comes the answer. The One that died for them on the cross.
He picks them up, and places them on the solid ground of faith.
He gives them a word to share with those who for the truth waits.
They turn about and walk back to those left behind,
To share the good news as the Father designed.
The long walk back has promise in each step;
For God is alive and well, and He is not finished with you yet!

Luke 24:33-35
And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Calm Your Troubled Sea By Brenda Drake

In one of my tipsy-turvy times when trying to figure things out on my own; because of the churning in my spirit I was not even able pray.   The Lord revealed how to get back the peace I once enjoyed in His presence.  All it really takes is a humble heart that fully admits its inability to go it alone, and that truly repents of it sins and its self-assured ways.
When we trust and speak the truth of the Word of God , we are able to effectivly use the name of Jesus in our prayer requests.  Even if we do not have all the answers we can know God is in control. We are able to rest in His care and will for our life.

Calm Your Troubled Sea

A storm rages, there is a troubled sea,
Within you it is not calm or at peace.
Your thoughts are uncertain; blowing with the wind,
Some wrong emotions are bottled up within.
Tossed to one side, then to another,
Rocking in a vessel but seeking cover,
But it is not a pleasant journey at all,
If you attempt to stand you stumble and fall.
This is not a word of rebuke as you might suppose,
It is a word to assure you, all things God knows.
What can be done about this trouble within?
Admit your attitude is indeed sin.
Admit your faith needs working on,
And that you are weak not all that strong.
As for the troubled waters about you;
Something can be done for that too.
 Jesus’ love provided your redemption.
He broke the chains and bondage of sin,
He deposited new authority to your new inner-man.
He offers His name to make your demands.
In Jesus name, declare to the raging water, peace be still;
Perfectly fitting in the Father’s will.
The enemy will surely torment the heart that allows him to.
This need not be, heed this word is delivered to you.

John 16:23
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

God is in Control By Brenda Drake

Do not fear God is in control

When our world does not feel safe, God is our refuge.  When it is hard to know what is true and what is not, God is Truth.  When we do not know what to do or where we are headed, Jesus is the Way.  When we feel our world is out of control, we need to remember God is still in control.

God is in Control

God is in control; His way we cannot see,
But we do know Jesus has died to set us free.
The world writhes in hurt; nations are sick with desire,
To be relieved of the heavy burdens acquired.
Our heart’s cry at the dilemma on every side,
And our spirit seeks truth that seems to hide.
Our God is Truth, He is Life and The Way,
To a future of joy, peace and forever praise.
When our attention is drawn back to the pandemic at hand,
And as the numbers of its victims we again understand,
We like flint must follow after our Savior and friend;
Choosing to listen to the Spirit again.
God is in control even when the earth shakes.
Knowing He is in control all the difference makes.
He is our God; healer, refuge from the storm, and calms raging sea;
That in the circumstances of the day begins to rise in you and me.
Choose to trust God in whatever lies ahead,
Because of His love for us and because of what the Word has said.

Psalms 91:14-15
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him.

Positive in Worldly Woe By Brenda Drake

     When all we see and hear is doom and gloom, and our lives have turned upside down, we must make a choice; who are we listening to?  We need to not only follow our leader’s direction, but must also seek God’s face to hear His guidance in our situations.  This is not the time for worry and fear but it is occasion to stand on God’s Word to proclaim victory over sickness, fear and confusion in Jesus’ name.

 Positive in Worldly Woe

How to stay positive in negative worldly woes,
Is a question most seek the answer to know.
When the unknown begins to cause stress within,
Look in faith to the One that sees beginning to end,
When angers emotion starts its fire inside,
And you are overcome with no answers in sight.
Come to the water that’s sweet flow,
Will calm the storms raging in your soul.
When uncertainties, fear and stress begin to rise,
Turn to the God with all seeing eyes.
He is the One certain and true,
He fights your battle for you.
He is Prince of Peace; come take rest.
He travels with you and plans for your best.
A the place of decision there is choice;
Listen to the despairing predictions or heed God’s voice.
Pray and repent, and trust and praise the Lord above.
You’ve traveled from negative into the positive realm of faith and love.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
 In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.

Isaiah 50:7
For the Lord God will help me;
therefore shall I not be confounded:
therefore have I set my face like a flint,
and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
