The Long Way Back By Brenda Drake

Before eyes were opened but then there was the long way back!

In our troubled times, when our lives are no where near being normal; when bad news seems is on every side, there is still the Good News of Christ’ victory over death. We must remember His wonderful gift of Salvation available to all who will but believe. Our Ressurection Sunday celebrations perhaps will have a different face this year. Even if we are unable to connect phyically with those we love; we can still honor our Lord by remembering all He accomplished to set us free from eternal death.

The Long Walk Back

With hearts sad, full of despair,
They walked away from Jerusalem; for Jesus was no longer there.
With hurting, heavy hearts they of Him spoke.
They shared with the listening stranger how their hearts broke.
As He broke the bread with them, they could then see,
The nail scared hands of the One, that was the Bread indeed.
The One that the fed multitudes was alive and well;
They willingly took the long walk back; to the others tell;
With hearts filled with wonder, and eyes wide with joy and surprise,
They testified to His followers the One they loved was not dead but alive!
The world has a deep hurt…. for many, hope has fled.
The past is a burden heavy, and they are afraid to look ahead.
They walk away from their dreams; conditioned to accept defeat and loss.
Then along comes the answer. The One that died for them on the cross.
He picks them up, and places them on the solid ground of faith.
He gives them a word to share with those who for the truth waits.
They turn about and walk back to those left behind,
To share the good news as the Father designed.
The long walk back has promise in each step;
For God is alive and well, and He is not finished with you yet!

Luke 24:33-35
And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Calm Your Troubled Sea By Brenda Drake

In one of my tipsy-turvy times when trying to figure things out on my own; because of the churning in my spirit I was not even able pray.   The Lord revealed how to get back the peace I once enjoyed in His presence.  All it really takes is a humble heart that fully admits its inability to go it alone, and that truly repents of it sins and its self-assured ways.
When we trust and speak the truth of the Word of God , we are able to effectivly use the name of Jesus in our prayer requests.  Even if we do not have all the answers we can know God is in control. We are able to rest in His care and will for our life.

Calm Your Troubled Sea

A storm rages, there is a troubled sea,
Within you it is not calm or at peace.
Your thoughts are uncertain; blowing with the wind,
Some wrong emotions are bottled up within.
Tossed to one side, then to another,
Rocking in a vessel but seeking cover,
But it is not a pleasant journey at all,
If you attempt to stand you stumble and fall.
This is not a word of rebuke as you might suppose,
It is a word to assure you, all things God knows.
What can be done about this trouble within?
Admit your attitude is indeed sin.
Admit your faith needs working on,
And that you are weak not all that strong.
As for the troubled waters about you;
Something can be done for that too.
 Jesus’ love provided your redemption.
He broke the chains and bondage of sin,
He deposited new authority to your new inner-man.
He offers His name to make your demands.
In Jesus name, declare to the raging water, peace be still;
Perfectly fitting in the Father’s will.
The enemy will surely torment the heart that allows him to.
This need not be, heed this word is delivered to you.

John 16:23
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

God is in Control By Brenda Drake

Do not fear God is in control

When our world does not feel safe, God is our refuge.  When it is hard to know what is true and what is not, God is Truth.  When we do not know what to do or where we are headed, Jesus is the Way.  When we feel our world is out of control, we need to remember God is still in control.

God is in Control

God is in control; His way we cannot see,
But we do know Jesus has died to set us free.
The world writhes in hurt; nations are sick with desire,
To be relieved of the heavy burdens acquired.
Our heart’s cry at the dilemma on every side,
And our spirit seeks truth that seems to hide.
Our God is Truth, He is Life and The Way,
To a future of joy, peace and forever praise.
When our attention is drawn back to the pandemic at hand,
And as the numbers of its victims we again understand,
We like flint must follow after our Savior and friend;
Choosing to listen to the Spirit again.
God is in control even when the earth shakes.
Knowing He is in control all the difference makes.
He is our God; healer, refuge from the storm, and calms raging sea;
That in the circumstances of the day begins to rise in you and me.
Choose to trust God in whatever lies ahead,
Because of His love for us and because of what the Word has said.

Psalms 91:14-15
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him.

Positive in Worldly Woe By Brenda Drake

     When all we see and hear is doom and gloom, and our lives have turned upside down, we must make a choice; who are we listening to?  We need to not only follow our leader’s direction, but must also seek God’s face to hear His guidance in our situations.  This is not the time for worry and fear but it is occasion to stand on God’s Word to proclaim victory over sickness, fear and confusion in Jesus’ name.

 Positive in Worldly Woe

How to stay positive in negative worldly woes,
Is a question most seek the answer to know.
When the unknown begins to cause stress within,
Look in faith to the One that sees beginning to end,
When angers emotion starts its fire inside,
And you are overcome with no answers in sight.
Come to the water that’s sweet flow,
Will calm the storms raging in your soul.
When uncertainties, fear and stress begin to rise,
Turn to the God with all seeing eyes.
He is the One certain and true,
He fights your battle for you.
He is Prince of Peace; come take rest.
He travels with you and plans for your best.
A the place of decision there is choice;
Listen to the despairing predictions or heed God’s voice.
Pray and repent, and trust and praise the Lord above.
You’ve traveled from negative into the positive realm of faith and love.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
 In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.

Isaiah 50:7
For the Lord God will help me;
therefore shall I not be confounded:
therefore have I set my face like a flint,
and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

Place all in God’s Hands By Brenda Drake

I know when I begin to fear and worry; and become irritable, stressed, and out of control. I need to go to God. I don’t know why I sometimes take so long, But I am learning to pray at the first warnings signs, I am attempting to handle it all on my own.

Place all in God’s Hands

When confronted with an issue that causes fear to reign,
Thats implications cause your heart and mind inner pain.
The very best remedy to relieve its stress,
Is to bring the problems to God and in His decisions rest.
When the issue involves someone you hold dear;
Pray and believe that your God hears.
Trust in His intervention as He steps out in your behalf.
For the Word says you will have if you ask.
Trust and faith are sometimes tested it’s true;
You must be convinced all turns out the best for you.
Many times your expectations are not the way that’s planned.
Trust God and know your prayers rest in His hand.

Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Help me Look Ahead By Brenda Drake

Prayer in troubled times

A prayer in troubled times.

Help us Look Ahead

With all that’s happening we lose sight of the joys ahead.
In the present world condition… our heart begins to dread,
There are terrible plights of humanity in every land;
So many lost and hurting people unable to the way understand.
The number of the hungry and the victimized grow each day.
Our heart hurts and we turn our eyes away.
But the pain and misery cuts a path deep,
Their desperate conditions in our mind we keep.
If we are not careful, when we get so caught up in the world’s woes,
We lose sight of the joy deep within our soul.
Help us Jesus to be able to lean into Your strength and power,
So our love and joy stays fresh and not discouraged or soured.
Help us to always see the bigger picture of what lie ahead,
So we will not be filled with unneeded stress or dread.
Help us to reach out and touch those ones we can reach,
And give us wisdom to comfort the disheartened and weak.
Allow our words bring a ray of hope to bring joy to another,
So from the worries of the world they too will recover.

John 14:26-27
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

I Lift my Heart By Brenda Drake

Prayer enters into His presence. He has rest for or soul.

There is a place we can enter where only we fit.  It is a perfect place of rest; even when storms rage outside and within.  Trouble, fear, and worry must be left at the door. In our time of prayer trust and faith in God’s love and care for every part of our life is restored.  It is a sweet time of willing transparency in the presence of the lover of our soul.

I Lift my Heart

I lift my heart to the One that in darkness sees clear.
In my devotions He chases away my inner fears.
Deep in the vast places unseen within;
The rumbling, raging waters are known by Him.
He says to the turbulent sea “Be Still.”
And assures I walk in the Father’s will.
By faith I know our steps are not to Him a surprise.
For all things are evident and clear in His eyes.
Every heavy burden I toss at His feet to stay.
Every dark thought contrary to God’s Word is cast away.
I will continue to lift up my face in faith to Him,
He is able and on Him I depend.
I pray fervently to be His reflection
I break open my heart for His close inspection.
He fixes and mends and joy is revived.
When Jesus makes my heart comfortable for Him to abide!

John 14:1
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Life Giving Waters By Brenda Drake

            It is normal in our troubled times; with all the bad news and dire predictions of the future, to feel under pressure.  We strive to adapt to the unwelcome changes in our life, and fearfully face the prospect of our new normal.   We are saddened at the dreadful state of many of the  elderly, sick, and poor at home and abroad.  Hearts cry at the terrible conditions our doctors, nurses and  countless unsung heroes are daily facing.  The Word of God teaches and assures even when we experience anxiety and stress and feel out of control; God is in control.  We need to remember, as we follow Him and practice faith, trust, and prayer in Jesus’ name; He never fails to heal hurting hearts. He always gives the strength and ability to do whatever we are called to do.  This poem calls us to Come to His life-giving waters.

Life Giving Waters

Come to the River of Life

Flowing water is a welcome sight to see,
When the ground is parched and it moisture needs
Water brings abundance to the lifeless place.
New life will rise up from the dry place.
Flower’s spring forth; aroma fills the air.
Singing birds dwell in brush growing there.
Joy delivered from God…His goodness abounds,
When life-giving water touches dry ground
As this is, a soul is; when they are thirsting within,
 Living Water makes new-life again.
The life of the thirsty man is made whole.
They are eternally thankful when brought to the river’s flow.
 Springs of joy cause the blooms of praise and worship inside;
Peace fills the air where the Lord abides.
God’s love the redeemed again wish to share;
His beauty is yet to be compared.
Come to the water drink some more
Drink freely of the provision provided by the Lord

Psalms 63:1-5
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

Embrace the Distance By Brenda Drake

In times like these we are called to distance ourselves to fight a battle. We can fight the distancing time or we can embrace it with a prayer.

Embrace the Distance

Embrace the distance by drawing closer to the Son.
Spend some quality time getting Kingdom work done
Call the neighbor, and near and far away friend,
Let them know you are thinking and praying for them.
Forgive the one, who has offended,
And pray for them to prove the hard feelings are ended.
Extend a helping hand reaching across the miles,
To lift another’s spirit causing them to smile.
Mend injured relationships with loved ones close at hand.
In their hurt and turmoil pray and seek to understand.
Read the Good Book and other good books too,
So the God you love and serve shines through.
Embrace the distance and spend
Some time, enjoying simple things again.
Express your feelings and listen to what others leave unsaid.
Touch by speaking wisdom as you are by God’s Spirit led.
Play a game, take a walk, sing and even dance if you can
Trust and have faith you are on God’s mind and firmly held in His hand.

Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty;
he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy;
he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Romans 8:37-39
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Faith Filled Prayers By Brenda Drake

            Seemingly impossible situations feel like a weight within.   Even when nothing has outwardly changed our hearts are relieved from heaviness when we lift them up in prayer.  Our faith is rewarded as we trust and give thanks.   It is impossible to please God without faith.

Faith Filled Prayers

When circumstances stand large in silent threat,
Do not despair, good from God expect.
In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, things can change,
It is not a hard thing for God to arrange.
Take one day at a time, do what you know to do.
Walk with steady step following the One leading you.
Myriads of angelic activity surround your life,
In the spiritual realm there is a fight.
Pray for God’s will, but do not worry about it.
Trust and rely on God’s Word; choose to never to doubt it.
Life is beautiful, the simple things enjoy.
Seek ye first God’s kingdom and added is extra joy.
Your heart’s desire is as plain as day to God above.
He is the dream planter, He is God of love.
God is not by your circumstances caught unaware,
Believe His love, lift up faith-filled prayers.

Galatians 5:5
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
