New Normal By Brenda Drake

The wise’s new normal will look up for our redemption is near.

I have been faithfully staying at home, following our leaders instructions, along with countless others across the world.  Amongst the world’s steady proclamations of the New Normal I have been praying and studying the scriptures just as many others are also.  Seeking wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit on where we are on God’s plan for His children.  I know He is in control.  Do I know what exactly is on our world’s agenda? No, but I do know we are on God’s agenda.  He is faithful and loves us so much.  I believe that whatever comes there is never a time He is not working to bring knowledge of His provision of Salvation to everyone that seeks to know the truth.   He is sure to bring His children safely to the place He has prepared for us.  Look up, for I believe Jesus soon returns for His bride.

New Normal

Normal means different to some,
But it means things as usual are done.
What is normal in your life?
Do you place first Christ?
When life is upside down and nothing seems the same,
Is it normal to put trust in Jesus and to praise His name?
Or is it normal to worry, fret, and stew;
Grumbling and complaining in all happening to you?
Is your new normal going to make positive change in your day?
Enjoying some of the simple things and tossing bad habits away?
Will your positive outlook on things good and true,
Be now a positive new part of you?
Will you look now at your neighbor and truly listen when he speaks?
Will your new normal see the man destitute living on the streets?
Will the sound of life-noises like laughter be embraced?
So the dog-eat-dog snarl does not mar your face.
What is the new normal?  Is it as the days and times dictate to go?
Or will it be as the Word of God pours into your soul?

Luke 21:28
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Lover and Keeper of our Soul By Brenda Drake

Jesus is the lover and keeper of our Soul.

Lover and Keeper of Our Soul

            I never felt completely safe as a child; my days were dark, and my future bleak.  I did not know how to handle the hard circumstances of my life.  Anger, hurt, and bitterness, and low self-esteem filled my heart and ruined the flavor of my life.  Jesus changed everything.   He is now my Lord, Savior, and the Keeper of my soul. There is light and hope shining on my path ahead and He also dwells deep within.

Father, protect us from life’s storms I pray.
Our heart and our future keep safe today.
In the winds and rains of life,
There are many who do not want to do right.
Keep us safe and give us wisdom as we walk the land;
We reach out Lord for Your helping hand.
When it is dark, You are the light within,
When it is unsafe to walk; we trust You carry us then.
When words like stones are thrown our way,
Instead we will listen to the Word, and its precepts obey.
When circumstances laugh, help us in faith to laugh too.
Knowing You are able to the best thing do.
You walked on the water, and through walls as a door.
Nothing is impossible for the Lord.
You conquer sin, and death bows-low in defeat.
We have full confidence our heart You keep.
Keeper of our soul, soul-lover till the end;
You are Lord, bridegroom, Savior and our best friend.

Psalms 121:5-6-8
The Lord is thy keeper:
the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
 The sun shall not smite thee by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul.
 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in
from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Gift of Life By Brenda Drake

      Life is a gift.  Jesus is Truth, Life and the Way. Because of His sacrifice in our behalf we have new life in Him.  When our eyes are opened to the Truth we can more appreciate all the gifts bestowed upon us. We then are equipped to help show the Way to another.

Gifts of Life

My heart ponders in my quiet times,
The beautiful gifts of life God has left for me to find.
I hear the lovely songs the birds sing,
As, I take a deep breath supplied by my King.
The gift of the sun’s shine, that warms my skin,
Is joined, by the soft touch of the wind.
At the hum of the hummingbirds that fly past my ear,
I in awe wonder at how fast they again disappear.
The sound of the bubbling flowing-stream outdoors:
Is another gentle reminder of life’s gifts from the Lord.
In this quiet place it’s clear to see,
That my God has bestowed yet another gift; His sweet peace.
Safe and secure in His divine care,
I remember I have a story to share.
Before I knew Jesus and before I was given new sight,
It felt nothing in my world was quite right.
Because of Jesus I am now of God’s family a part,
He is the true reason life’s gifts are precious in my heart.

1 Chronicles 29:11
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

Depressed Jess By Brenda Drake

   In our troubled uncertain times, cooped up; with threats of sickness, and possible financial difficulties, it is normal for us to feel a bit depressed.  This poem is a definite exaggeration of this emotion; when we allow life situations to keep us pressed down.  With Jesus on our side there is no need to carry depression as our title.  Don’t be a depressed Jess!  Be a best Jess!

Depressed Jess

Depressed Jess… Oh what a mess,
All he comprehends is unhappiness.
He walks with a dark cloud over- head.
All he sees are obstacles and all he feels is dread.
His smile points upside down.
His eyes do not look up in hope they look to the ground.
He walks with a heavy step and drags his feet.
He faces every problem or trial with utter defeat.
He sleeps many hours without attaining rest.
The day’s hours are like a sentence, because he’s so depressed.
His depression becomes a friend, and he begins to feel,
Only his outlook in life is true or real.
But he is deceived, the evil one lies to him;
His greatest enemy pretends to be his friend.
There is help for him – it is on the way;
Someone has recognized his plight and has begun to pray.
Depressed Jess has a choice.  He can choose to the Light see,
Or he can choose to continue to listen to the enemy.
If he listens to Jesus he must not in this place stay;
He must decide to change his ways.
Jess has a new name when he decides to depression fight.
Depressed Jess becomes the best Jess, the follower of Christ!

Proverbs 15:13
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow
of the heart the spirit is broken.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Take a Deep Breath By Brenda Drake

When we begin to feel the breathless threats of fear begin its attack, we need to breathe in God’s peace.  It is available at any time of day or night.  It may sound silly to some but I actually do take deep breaths of Him and breathe out fear, anxiety, and frustration.  God is good.  He is faithful to be our help in times of trouble.  He is in full control, what do we have to fear with Him on our side?

Take a Deep Breath

Take a deep breath, breathe in God’s peace.
Blow out all the worry and fear, so faith is increased.
Do this a few times more,
And you will feel the strength of the Lord.
Now set your face to the future; stare it hard in the face.
State with conviction you are firmly in God’s embrace.
Redeem the extra time you have; wisely it spend,
Thinking and doing, what is good to magnify your God again.
Look around at God’s blessing and look within too,
Give thanks and praise for all He has done for you.
Allow the songs of salvation to flood your soul;
Assuring and proving God is in control.
Search the Scriptures with a heart willing to see,
The promises and provisions God has delivered to thee.
Take a deep breath; breathe in love, peace and power,
That allows you to live fully in the world’s troubled hours.

Job 33:3-4
My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart:
and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
 The Spirit of God hath made me,
and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

God is in Control By Brenda Drake

Do not fear God is in control

When our world does not feel safe, God is our refuge.  When it is hard to know what is true and what is not, God is Truth.  When we do not know what to do or where we are headed, Jesus is the Way.  When we feel our world is out of control, we need to remember God is still in control.

God is in Control

God is in control; His way we cannot see,
But we do know Jesus has died to set us free.
The world writhes in hurt; nations are sick with desire,
To be relieved of the heavy burdens acquired.
Our heart’s cry at the dilemma on every side,
And our spirit seeks truth that seems to hide.
Our God is Truth, He is Life and The Way,
To a future of joy, peace and forever praise.
When our attention is drawn back to the pandemic at hand,
And as the numbers of its victims we again understand,
We like flint must follow after our Savior and friend;
Choosing to listen to the Spirit again.
God is in control even when the earth shakes.
Knowing He is in control all the difference makes.
He is our God; healer, refuge from the storm, and calms raging sea;
That in the circumstances of the day begins to rise in you and me.
Choose to trust God in whatever lies ahead,
Because of His love for us and because of what the Word has said.

Psalms 91:14-15
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him.

Faith Filled Prayers By Brenda Drake

            Seemingly impossible situations feel like a weight within.   Even when nothing has outwardly changed our hearts are relieved from heaviness when we lift them up in prayer.  Our faith is rewarded as we trust and give thanks.   It is impossible to please God without faith.

Faith Filled Prayers

When circumstances stand large in silent threat,
Do not despair, good from God expect.
In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, things can change,
It is not a hard thing for God to arrange.
Take one day at a time, do what you know to do.
Walk with steady step following the One leading you.
Myriads of angelic activity surround your life,
In the spiritual realm there is a fight.
Pray for God’s will, but do not worry about it.
Trust and rely on God’s Word; choose to never to doubt it.
Life is beautiful, the simple things enjoy.
Seek ye first God’s kingdom and added is extra joy.
Your heart’s desire is as plain as day to God above.
He is the dream planter, He is God of love.
God is not by your circumstances caught unaware,
Believe His love, lift up faith-filled prayers.

Galatians 5:5
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
