By God’s Spirit Led By Brenda Drake

I want to be led by the Spirit of God.  I want to be soft and pliable in His hands.  I used to be stubborn and strong willed desiring my will.  My God wooed me, saved me, and now He leads me each day. To Him belongs all the glory.

By God’s Spirit Led

A ring in a bull’s nose is not there to look good.
It is there to enforce it acts as it should.
It will go when the master says go and it will stop too.
It is by force persuaded on what he is to do.
God does not desire the bullish man.
He does not fit in His plans.
He desires to be followed by those who desire to come,
Without force he willingly follows after God’s Son.
Love will place another first, love will willingly serve,
Love chooses to forgive even the undeserved.
Love will lead another by their testimony and light.
It is open, pure, and honest and Christ-like.
God so loved He sent His Son, to give His life for you.
So you that received are able to give your life too.
Not because of guilt or force is your sacrifice before God placed.
The bullish man or woman will not God’s grace embrace.
The one who sees and hears truth and God’s way accepts,
Will find he is not driven by love he is by God’s Spirit led.

Psalms 32:9-10
Be ye not as the horse,
or as the mule, which have no understanding:
whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle,
lest they come near unto thee.
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked:
but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.

1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

He Reaches Out By Brenda Drake

Our Lord is always attempting to touch us with His hand of mercy and heart of Grace. In the beauty of creation He reaches out to us, and on the cross He bore our every sin so He could forever touch our soul.

He Reaches Out

He reached out to me before I was born.
He desired my love before I was formed.
Strange, but wonderfully true,
As He reached out to me; He also reached out to you.
On the cross… terrible, was His agony.
In this troubled place, He reached out to you and to me.
He saw our every sin, and, He died for each and every one.
Then, He motioned to us to follow Him, when He was done.
His holy work was finished; He waited for the appointed time,
When He called my name, I reached out, and invited Him inside.
There are many special times when I’ve felt His touch;
When I lift up my heart in worship… He lifts me up.
In times of worry, and times of stress,
When I, lift up my prayer requests,
He takes the problem that weights me down,
And then, He pulls me to higher ground.
Even in times of anger, trials, or fear,
In just a breath of praise, He draws near.
His loving, hand of mercy, and His wonderful, firm embrace,
Draws me even closer; when I seek His face.
He also reaches out to me through others …it is strange indeed,
Because we are so close, when it happens; it is, His embrace. I receive!

I John 4:10-11
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Love Spoke into My Darkness By Brenda Drake

These are indeed dark times; our world is under great siege on every side with sickness, death, and emotional and financial difficulties. It is very hard to imagine the possible prolonged amount of time it may take for our economy’s recovery. As we watch we will see love is on all sides speaking in our gloom just as Jesus expresses His love and provision for each one of us in our spiritual blackness.

Love Spoke into My Darkness

When young I remember marveling over the beauty of the butterfly.
It was so pretty watching how it would rise up to the sky.
I didn’t know about God…my eyes were blind;
But He left little treasures like this for me to find.
Little by little I began to wonder about things unclear,
As my seeking heart was prepared; God drew near.
It is strange now when looking back,
I didn’t have any idea of my darkness; but God knew where I was at.
He kept me pretty busy searching for what I did now know,
And then one day He revealed the darkness of my soul.
At the revelation my life was rearranged.
When I saw His great gift of salvation my life was forever changed.
He has never stopped giving me His gifts along the way.
He still speaks into my heart and His Word lights the way.

Psalms 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament
 sheweth his handywork.

Do You Love Me? By Brenda Drake

We profess our love for God, but when we turn away from someone in need, I believe Jesus would also need to ask us again.  Do you love me?

Do You Love Me?

Do you love me, asked the Master three times in one day.
Each time He heard the answer but He asked again anyway.
Each time He asked, Peter’s heart underlined his answer clear.
Jesus desired for Peter to his own heart hear.
When he said “Yes, I love you”
At first it was an automatic response… although true.
The next time he was very aware of his love professed.
But the last time he answered – his heart responded best.
“Feed my sheep” was the Master’s entreaty to Peter each time.
We too need to feed His sheep. For our love to be clearly defined;
We need to also love them, and take extra care,
To deliver the truth and to cover them with prayer.
To feed the sheep is to show respect and as a sacrifice of self;
Listen to them and when they have need… help
Whatever you do for the least of them you do for God above.
Do you love me is the question? How will you prove your love?

John 21:17
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

See the Love of the Lord By Brenda Drake

It sometimes takes my breath away at the love of God that is revealed to me at strange times and in unexpected places.  I wonder how many missed opportunities I’ve missed in my sometimes too distracted day?

See the Love of the Lord

Have you in wonder gazed at the stars at night?
At the vastness of God do you delight?
Have you ever observed in the eyes of a child,
Reflections of God’s wisdom?  Did it cause you to smile?
If you try, out of the mouths of babes you may hear,
A message of our heavenly Father to reach your ear.
Have you ever marveled at the beauty at day’s start?
And ponder at the sweet peace that floods your heart?
There are times when you least expect, a thrill from within,
Renews your hopes and dreams again.
Love is surrounding you and holds on to you tight.
Love is always willing to share with you His light
Watch for signs of love to be more blessed than before.
In every place and situation behold the love of the Lord

Roman 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word Reprimand By Brenda Drake

I remember my mom when she would say as I was corrected for disobeying her, “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you, but it is for your own good.”  I didn’t believe her just as my children didn’t believe me when I said the same thing to them. This poem expresses the Father’s heart concerning reprimand and correction.

The Word Reprimand

Reprimand corrects and warns, to turn away from wrong.
If it is done in love it will not hurt as long.
To be reprimanded by God is much the same.
I warn to turn away from the path of shame.
When reprimanded you need to be aware,
It is because you have a God that cares.
When corrected, you will need to understand,
That it is administered by God’s loving hand.
When you have been asked not to do certain things,
If you disobey, you know it deep within your being.
I ask always in love, I correct the same.
Punishment may seem harsh but God’s love is proclaimed.
For the consequences would be even more disastrous for thee,
If you are not stopped you could be destroyed by the enemy.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

 Revelations 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Psalms 89:32-33
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
