The True Gospel By Brenda Drake

            I remember hearing bits and pieces about Jesus.  But the day I heard the whole Gospel, it was as if a blinder was torn from my eyes and a shroud was removed from my heart.  I saw the truth of the condition of my soul.  I saw the great terrible need of my life, and the sure damnation and destination of my soul. I comprehended in a flash the great love of God the Father and the immense sacrifice of Jesus in my behalf.  I heard the True Gospel that leads to a real born-again relationship with God.

The True Gospel

When the true Gospel is preached clear,
The Word of God is drawn near.
God so loved the world He sent His Son,
To pay sin’s price so salvation comes.
If Jesus had not died upon the tree,
There was no other way to be reprieved.
If death’s penalty was not erased,
There would not be an extension of grace.
If the tomb was not emptied and bare,
There would be no Good News to share.
If life’s-promise had not been believed,
Fallen man has not God’s gift of new life received.
When the true-gospel is preached and the heart responds.
The rock-solid truth of Salvation is sure and strong.
Light invades the darkness and suddenly,
The dead-man-walking is able to see.
The true gospel is love laid down to die,
To be your eternal supply.
Jesus is the bridge across the chasm of sin,
He gives you the true gospel as He moves in.
He is the Word that becomes crystal clear;
All is well with the soul that the True Gospel hears.

Ephesians 1:13-14
n whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Romans 10:14-15
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

World of Words By Brenda Drake

            It is good to be aware of things occurring in the world. However when we get caught up with all the ups, downs, deceptions, and lies of the many voices, we become sour and depressed.  The world is full of words that are contrary to the Word of God; those we must turn away.

World of Words

In a world of words what do you hear?
Is it the kind of things that incite anger or fear?
Words that discourage and cause anxiety within,
Are not of value to be allowed in.
In a world of words the One Word true,
Causes faith to grow inside of you;
Rivers of peace and flowers of joy abound,
With a sure direction leads to higher ground.
Truth stands tall and will not change direction.
Great is the Word’s provision to prosper them.
Jesus is the Word of God that spoke from the cross to man;
That directs to the way of salvation the Father planned.
In the world of words of lie and deceit,
Where chaos and divisions increase;
Where the right way is painted wrong,
And what God says is evil now belongs;
Where hatred is hidden in cunning expressions,
And love is frivolous and fake in its confession.
Speak the Word, live the Word, love words kind and true.
Love Jesus the Word and He will shine through.
In the world of words- the One who made all you see,
Becomes the world to you for eternity.

Luke 6:44
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Watching for the New Day By Brenda Drake

Watching for the New Day
By Brenda Drake

Oh how fast the years seem to pass.  We are now looking forward to a brand New Year; with hopes of new beginning we make our New Year resolutions.   But to many the change began with the day of Salvation, when God made the change within us.  We are new; we are born again into new life in Christ Jesus.

Watching for the New Day
By Brenda Drake

The New Year starts for many on New Year’s Day,
They have purposed to truly change their ways.
But for some change has already taken place;
They are a new man, born again, saved by grace.
The New Year ahead is a gift holding some treasures;
Pleasant, satisfying, that will bring much pleasure.
It may hold some trials, and certain rain; some,
Where the child of God is reminded their journey is not yet done.
The love and sure hold of the One they serve,
Ministers and comforts them undisturbed.
Each day added with God’s work on earth done.
They are watching as the bride for the return of God’s Son;
Waiting for a new day in a new world under Christ’s reign.
Where at last only love and Love’s influence will forever remain.

Revelations 19:11-16
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Revelations 20:1
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Remembering Who We are Remembering By Brenda Drake

People rush about at Christmas time with little thought of the reason for our Christmas celebrations.  Many even reject the purpose for the holiday of gift-giving.  This is a gentle reminder to remember who it is we are remembering.

Remembering Who We are Remembering
Would you take some extra time out of your busy life,
To remember the celebrations ahead are in honor of the birth of Christ?
When you decorate and light up the Christmas tree,
Remember the Light of the world died on a tree to set us free.
When you wrap your gifts in brightly colored paper and bows,
Remember your greatest gift was in flesh clothed.
When your family meet together and each other bless,
In your celebration remember you are delivering to God His gifts.
Your love, peace, and joy, and your moment taken to pray,
Are pleasurable gifts you give to Him on this special day.
Remember who you are remembering; and when the day is done,
We have honored also our heavenly Father in celebrating the birth of Jesus His Son.

Psalms 77:11
I will remember the works of the Lord:
surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

Tree of Celebration By Brenda Drake

It is good to praise and celebrate the birth of the Lord.  A part of our celebration is the tree that we light and decorate. I celebrate every year the birth of Jesus the One that hung on a tree for the sins of us all.

Tree of Celebration
By Brenda Drake

Once was the days of youth, when you searched for the tree;
Tromping through the snow with vigor and glee;
Laughing at each other’s choices,
Until “the one” chosen was proclaimed in jubilant voices.
Out came the treasured ornaments from the past and some new,
A pretty angel or the star was placed on top too.
The dry fallen needles embedded in the cracks in the floor,
Were gladly endured to celebrate the birth of the Lord.
In later years came the tree that did not grow,
One that needed to be formed by a color code.
Beautiful still and still caused much pleasure;
Holding all you newest and oldest homemade treasures.
And now much later perhaps in your life,
The tree has shrunk down in your sight.
A tiny little tree that on a table sits;
But still your love and respect for Jesus represents.
With a tiny little tree, heart memories abound;
As you reminiscence tromping in snowy ground.
And you wonder at the change that has taken place within,
As you celebrate Christ’s birth watching palms blowing in the wind

Psalms 147:1
Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God;
for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

Forgotten Gift By Brenda Drake

In our Christmas celebrations let us not forget Jesus, the real reason for the season.

The Forgotten Gift

The forgotten gift under the tree,
Was a seemingly unimportant thing to see.
Of all the packages this one thing,
Could cause the thankful heart to sing.
Forgotten gifts have ruined the day for some;
Never easily again would the same mistake be done.
Like a tiny battery that is not there;
Such a small thing that was spared.
Forgotten in the preparations- they just slipped the mind.
Usually they will not be overlooked the next time.

In the celebrations of Christmas multitudes do the same thing,
They forget to give honor to Christ bring:
The gift on the tree,
That purchased all they would ever need.
They forget the reason for the season, God’s gift to man.
His birth was the beginning of the Father’s Masterplan.

You may have forgotten the gift Jesus most craves;
As you pass gifts to others on Christmas day.
But His love reaches across the world with joy and peace,
 As the old and the young His bounty receive.
He has not and never will forget your name.
He has carried every worry, every sin and every shame.
For those who believe, His love has already for you prepared a place,
To receive His gift to live forever in His loving embrace.

Revelations 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door,
I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Christmas Story Miracle By Brenda Drake

As a child there were times of joy at the prospect of Christmas day.  But later in life, after I learned the real reason for the season there is a different, deeper, kind of joy.  Now I am able to appreciate how far Jesus traveled to become mortal so He could pay our debt for our sin. Because of what He did we are now able to spend eternity with Him.

Christmas Story Miracle
By Brenda Drake

At the first sound of the baby’s cry,
The earth heard the sound of the Father’s sigh.
The holy offering in a manger lay,
The love of God was on display.
The heavens rejoiced and the angels did too.
The great plan set in motion to a greater work do.
Creation whispered at such a thing;
The earth now clothed the Creator-King.
God yet man made of clay.
Great is the mystery portrayed.
Love has come to rescue and to save the lost,
To live to die on a rugged cross.
Angels in wonder in awe stand,
As they remember the birth celebrated across the land.
Holy, holy, holy child of God born,
To restore and make whole those sin-torn.
Precious is the remembrance celebrated each year;
To many it brings great joy and held most dear.
But to some sounds of truth are pushed aside;
And again the Christmas story miracle is hidden from their eyes.

Luke 2:10-14
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,
good will toward men.

Love is Still Alive By Brenda Drake

            Christmas-time is a special time of year.  I love the bright lights, the music, the smiles and happy greetings of Merry Christmas from strangers and friends alike.

Love is Still Alive
By Brenda Drake

Shoe boxes are passed to underprivileged on Christmas day;
Little trinkets and small things in it arrayed.
To some seemingly so mundane; but not to them.
They oh and aw at all the things packed in.
Some have many boxes under the tree,
Packed with generous offerings from friends and family.
Although there is a moment of anticipation in each gift received;
Many times there are things we really do not need.
I find that although gift-giving is nice,
It matters not a gift is expensive in price.
It matters more who is gathered to celebrate,
With us on such a special day.
As you celebrate the Father’s gift in the birth of the Lord;
Real joy is when you personally are at peace with the One adored.
Christ means many things to many about,
But the real reason for the season the wise find out.
God is love.  He is our gift of life new.
He came to earth, born to a virgin, and died for us too,
He is the love and peace that flows inside.
As we joyfully give our gifts we prove Jesus’ love is still alive.

1 John 4:15-16
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Allowed to See God’s Face By Brenda Drake

Allowed to see God’s
Face by Brenda Drake

Mother and child at her breast,
In a stable on a bed of hay rest.
Holy, royalty graced the place,
Where man was allowed to see God’s face.
The angels marveled over such a thing,
As the beheld the small babe, Prince, and King.
How could this be?
God placed in the care of humanity?
How could such a tiny package hold heaven’s breath?
How could He who was life experience death?
How could the world turn away from God’s greatest gift given?
How and why does man choose to stay lost and unforgiven?
The babe in the manger hay was made man,
To be judged and to before the Father stand.
Pure, holy, and set aside to be
The Lamb slain to set us free.
His birth, life, death and resurrection,
Have been studied and held under great inspection.
At His name all men will to their knee fall.
Some in worship and in thanks upon His name calls.
All will confess He is Lord;
Some with hearts out of tune and some in one accord.
The birth of Christ is celebrated and some eyes open to know,
The reason for the season is to illuminate Jesus is God’s gift to all men’s soul.

Colossians 1:13-15
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

The Spirit of Christmas By Brenda Drake

There is a lot more to Christmas than getting and receiving presents.  I believe it is a holy time to give praise to God, to marvel the miracle of a virgin birth, to remember why Jesus came to earth, and to acknowledge all the blessings we have received.

The Spirit of Christmas
By Brenda Drake

Gathered around the tree on Christmas morn,
To celebrate Christ on earth was born.
Gifts are shared far and wide across the lands.
But what we really need to understand;
Jesus is the greatest gift offered on a tree,
He is the eternal-gift the wise will receive.
Songs of good cheer are shared by some.
And melodies of praise lift to glorify God’s Son.
The lights of wonder in children’s eyes are a delight to behold;
As the true meaning of Christmas-time is retold.
In wonder the innocent delight in the manger-birth;
With hearts open they believe God came to earth.
Gathered lovingly together many God’s great love perceives.
Then the Spirit of Christmas is by them received.

Psalms 92:1-4
It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre. For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
