Time is Measured By Brenda Drake

            It seems when young we have so much time to accomplish all we desire to do.  Then it seems there is never enough time to do as we must do.  God is in control of the amount of my days.  All I can do is live each day loving and serving Him knowing He has good things planned ahead for me now and in the hereafter.

Time is Measured

Time is measured, each person that lives,
Has an allotted time marked as his.
In its minutes, hours, and days
Time measures their ways.
Do you wonder why time goes slow,
And then at times you wonder where it goes?
Do you think God is slow too?
Wondering why it takes so long for dreams to come true?
It is all perspectives issue my friend.
You see what you feel, God knows beginning to end.
Your instruction in the Word is to keep God in mind.
Obey the Word; thus redeeming the time.
Time is measured for you.
The time is near when dreams come true.
Soon you will know, see, hear, and taste;
The full benefit and promises of God’s grace.
A new day; a new time under Christ’s rule on earth,
As bride, as friend, to assist in His work.
God’s timing is perfect; it is all in His plan.
Rejoice holding faith close in heart while holding unto His hand.

Palms 90:12
So teach us to number our days,
that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Whisper to the Heart By Brenda Drake

In our troubled times I believe seeking hearts will hear God’s whispering sounds of love. I do not know how we listen to God without hearing a sound, but I know without a doubt I have heard loud what another does not hear right next to me.  I do not know how out of the blue I know without a doubt what direction I need to take, but I do. How do I feel confident and full of faith when just moments before I was unsure and doubtful?  I just know it is my Lord speaking loud within me.

Whisper to the Heart

Whispers to the heart sound loud and clear;
Even louder sometimes, than when spoken in the ear.
The voice may sound like the wind,
But somehow you know the whisper comes from Him.
The slight nod of disapproval when you purposely disobey;
The inner conviction that shows the right way,
The calm nudge of assurance that has peace in its touch,
Agreeing with your decision confidence fills your cup,
The indescribable delight that bubbles up deep inside,
That promises satisfaction as in Him you abide.
Whispers of the heart are not mundane or dull,
They have an attraction that the heart-strings pull.
They draw into repentance, worship, and praise.
They add flavor to your life and life to your days.
Do you hear loving sounds even in this rhyme?
Perhaps you will recognize the whisper God designs.

Psalms 32:8
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.

Come Soar with Me By Brenda Drake

We get so busy in our everyday life almost before we realize it we are piled high with the many things that cause heaviness within.   Jesus is always available to lift our load as we lift up our prayer requests. This poem invites us to share every concern with Him. He promises to not only listen to us but to answer with His assurance, comfort, and joy.

Come Soar with Me

Soar with me over obstacles in the way.
You are lifted over them when you pray.
The dream that illusively seems out of reach,
The answer to the question you refuse to speak.
The doubt and even the fears,
That clouds thoughts with unshed tears.
Come let us examine these things;
Bring them one by one to Christ the King.
Your vision inspired by God above;
Will be delivered, on His wings of love.
The accusations that taunt sure failure within,
Bring them too, they are answered by Him.
With God on your side and with His rule within,
Is there a chance of failure my friend?
With joy, peace and salvations sure hold,
How is it possible you do not walk on streets of gold?
How could the bride of heaven with garments pure in Christ,
Not be comforted by the joy of God’s presence in their life.
Soar with the lover of your heart and soul;
Rest confident in His sure hold.

Psalms 27:5
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:
in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;
he shall set me up upon a rock.

Faith’s Test By Brenda Drake

We are hard on ourselves sometimes.  We have distorted ideas of our worth, if we do not act in the way we perceive as right we feel we have failed. I am happy our Lord knows all our weaknesses and does not measure our success by our actions but by His work in our behalf.

Faith’s Test

You may feel your faith has faltered and your pace has slowed,
But in truth you are walking forward on streets of gold.
Your love you wonder is it as strong as before?
Is it as strong and true for your Lord?
When life throws darts and hits hard inside,
You know where to run to hide.
Faith is not always showy in its display.
It does not always know exactly what to say.
It does not always run wild and free;
Sometimes faith crawls on heart’s knees.
Faith’s test- Are you God’s child? On Him do you depend?
If a negative word is said against His name do you defend?
When trouble and trials come do you believe for God’s best?
If yes to all these questions you pass faith’s test.
Love, faith, and hope join together from time to time.
When they do joy, peace and assurance are also close by.

Hebrews 11:4
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Blinded by the Smoke of Our Own Fire By Brenda Drake

We can be doing the right thing and even move in the right direction and still be just a little off track.  How is this? When we make our own way, utilizing our own efforts and our own plans how to get there.  Then when something hinders our progress we become confused and fearful.  For, we are trying too hard to accomplish what God desires to help us do with His strength, His wisdom, and His help.  God clear away the smoke from our eyes.

Blinded by the Smoke of Our Own Fire

You have made your plans and set your face to do,
Perhaps even feeling God is leading you.
You push and shove things out of the way;
To on your purposed path stay.
But when things keep getting in the way perhaps,
It is God trying to help get back on track.
The wise will daily seek to see,
If where they go is where God leads.
You ask what does this word mean?
Is the direction I go not the way right I have seen?
Am I blinded by the smoke of my own fire?
Is my dream my dream and not as God desires?
How am I able to know if my way is right?
How am I able to discern I am clear of sight?
Does my walk of faith need some repair?
Father, will You a sure solution share?

<<<>>>

I tell you friend when your direction is true,
It is up to me not up to you.
You must be open to the way I have designed for you to go
Not blinded by the smoke of your own understanding but trusting God is in control.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Keep the Mind on Christ By Brenda Drake

I used to daydream a lot, most of the time it was truly wasted time.  I would create a make-believe place in my thoughts where I would be strong, beautiful, rich, or smart.  There was not much accomplished by my imaginary place of rest.  I found I was still weak, sad, lonely, or as angry when all was said and done.  I am free now as I think on Jesus, I am who the Word says I am.  I can do as the Word says I can do.  Jesus is the Word, and He is my Lord, and the lifter of my head in any situation I face.

Keep the Mind on Christ

Focus on things good and true,
Keep good healthy thoughts inside of you.
When fear or anger threatens to overtake,
Do not hesitate,
Turn your mind in a right direction,
Pray in the Spirit and you will get help to reject them.
When bored or lonely, or when the heart-sad breaks,
Heed good advice and some adjustments make.
Read about and think about the Lord you love,
And you will be strengthened by wisdom from above.
If you are tired and weary in your life,
Turn your heart and mind back again to Christ.
If you feel poor and needy, and tattered or torn too,
Think of this good word given to you.
You will leave rich, and richly dressed;
In the pure robe of God’s righteousness.
Come in any circumstance you face;
God gives comfort and give peace within His embrace.
Think thoughts positive and true,
Think about the promises given to you.
Have faith in God’s ability and in His Word,
You will have a much pleasanter life upon the earth.

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Sore Spots in Life By Brenda Drake

Do you ever wonder what in the world is happening?  Do you feel a little bruised by circumstances around you?  Are you at times so weary of the road you travel? I have been and I am.  I have some things I scratched my head over, and other times things I have shook my head over.  When this happens I can do one of two things, I can get bitter or with God’s help I can get better.

Sore Spots in Life

There are times in your life,
When things do not seem to go right.
Trying times of trouble, pain, or stress,
When life hurts; in its progress.
This comes to almost everyone at times.
It is not as God has designed.
You live in a realm that is under siege;
On every side there are enemies,
Seeking to cause pain, shame, and despair.
Never is nor does life on earth profess to be fair.
When you belong to God’s Son,
You are now called His chosen ones.
To walk and talk as His ambassador as in a foreign land;
Subject to its terrors but led by God’s hand.
Each step can be painfully slow,
But still there is joy within the soul.
The sore spots are healed and soon you run again;
With heart ready to sing praise to your Lord and Friend.
Sore spots in life are not permanent for God speaks to them.
Soon He also heals the Nations as planned and under His rule again.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
 In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.

Angry Seas By Brenda Drake

I am not as afraid of storms as I used to be.  But I still would not choose to be out in a little boat in a stormy sea.  When our life is in precarious position it is wise to place our trust and faith in the One that will either lift us out of danger, ride the waves with us, or will say to the storm “Peace be still.”  Be wise and be safe.

Angry Waves

Out in the waters dark and deep,
There is danger when the boat leaks.
In the icy waters it is hard to survive.
In its vastness it is hard to stay alive.
You are in a world of angry waves;
With power and ability to carry you away.
Out in the murky waters of sin,
Do not attempt to swim.
Stay in the safe place prepared for you.
For the world’s blackness will harm or destroy you.
Treacherous effects are lurking,
In places hard to see.
The wise will not travel into the stormy places if life.
They will rest in Jesus as He guards their life.
He is the One that calms the troubled sea for you.
If needed ….He will rescue you too.
Angry waves troubles the soul,
But Jesus will never let you go.
So as you face the winds in life
Place your faith and trust in Him -you are never out of His sight.

Psalms 107:28-29
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

The Anchor of Our Soul By Brenda Drake

        What a large complicated world we live in.  I can easily get confounded with its unstable, violent, tossing’s and turnings.  Our God is not confused, or out of sorts.  He is completely capable, and in full control.  He that formed the earth and fills it spoke the first word and always has the last word.   Jesus is the Word of God and He is the Anchor of our soul.

The Anchor of Our Soul

Out in the world large and vast as the sea,
Sometimes I’m tossed about and the way is not clear to me.
I’ve learned that in the place of turmoil or stress,
The best thing is not to struggle but to in God rest.
You are the Anchor of my soul.
You are in full control.
Before long I am at peace within.
And the way is seen clear again.
The world’s sounds speak loud and clear,
But it’s God’s voice I desire to hear.
When I open up my heart and Scripture I find,
An anchor to my soul when with the Word aligned.
Before long I am at peace again.
The Word makes God’s voice clear within.
The lover of my soul says “Peace be still.”
With God what have I to fear?  I live to do His will.
Kept safe in His love and care,
The truth of His goodness with others I will share.
Jesus is our Anchor; and He calms our troubled seas,
He is Savior that died to set us free.
He is the lifeline and the Light that shows the way.
He is refuge and high-tower and the Word to obey,
As the apple of His eye and His reborn,
What have we to fear in life’s storms?
As we remember God’s goodness we are set free.
Joy then overtakes the world’s threat and anxieties!

Hebrews 6:19
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,
and which entereth into that within the veil;

Divine Shelter By Brenda Drake

I used to be petrified in storms.  But one day I discovered the One that is in control of the storm provides a safe place for those that place their trust in Him.  Place your trust in Jesus and the fear subsides and peace like a warm blanket will cover and protects your soul.

Divine Shelter

The storm rages ….the troubled sea tosses about;
The mind fills with fear, worry, and doubt.
Why?”  “Where are you?” “What can I do?”
Then…”I’m in trouble Lord I need help from you.”

<<<<>>>>

Your call is always heard ….when in distress,
Your God lifts, you to in His hand rest.
The storm may still blow but you are secure again;
You are at peace deep within.
Divine shelter is never withheld – it is always there.
It is reached at times of prayer.
Just a call is all it takes;
And the harsh winds I break.
Divine protection provides rest to regain strength;
So with God’s power you are able to face the stormy sea.
Never are you asked to travel all alone my friend.
Remember, even if the storm rages… the sun shines soon again.

Isaiah 25:4
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
