1 John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness,
we lie, and do not the truth:
We lie to ourselves and to our Lord when we justify our reasons why we do not to do what we know we should do. We all make excuses from time to time. It is wise to admit and repent of them instead.
It is an Excuse
Probable justifications, plausible to some,
As reasons why things are or are not done.
There are not enough hours in the day;
I have no extra time to take to pray.
I have heard them all and numerous more.
They say I will do it tomorrow Lord.
Time is stolen again and again;
From outside sources and from within.
If honest, many times it is just an excuse,
With not a bit of real truth.
There was occasion; you could have done the good deed.
You could have spent a while to your spirit feed.
The truth is there was real opportunity,
To assist, speak, or pray for the weak.
People and circumstances obstruct in life it is true,
Myriad issues can and will hinder you.
Admit when you are lazy, uncaring, or unwise.
Do not add to your sin with yet another lie.
God does not condemn; He reveals what needs to be rearranged.
And encourages to discard the excuses and acknowledge the need for change.
Prayer
I repent for all my excuses. Help me to be honest with You, Lord. I know You see and understand all my inner struggles. Make it clear to me, when and what I say is just an excuse. Give me the ability and desire to do as You wish.
