Flowers on a Page By Brenda Drake

We spend time and money to look our best, but sometimes we need to spend some extra time working on our inward portrayal.  Our real beauty is Christ in us; His light we are asked to shine and His good news we are commissioned to share.

Flowers on a Page

Flowers on the page of a book may be pretty it is true,
But they are unable to be picked and given by you.
They smell like musty old paper or like ink;
With not a hint of the aroma of flowers red or pink.
An artist can capture a flowers beauty to pleasure the eye;
They can look very real and alive.
But they are just an image of the real thing,
A small amount of pleasure it can bring.
Some individuals are recognized as good.
Pleasing to look at but inner life is misunderstood.
Shallow, like flower on a page are flat and lifeless too,
They are unable to be picked or by God used.
The redeemed-life is new, alive, and whole;
With fresh aroma that proves a forgiven soul.
A fresh breath of air in a harsh dry land;
Picked and chosen and sent by the Creator’s hand.
A beautiful example of the One that died in their place;
They are at the foot of the Father because of His mercy and grace.
They are real, true believers in Jesus, God’s Son;
Fully dedicated to get God’s Work done.

Matthew 5:20
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees,
ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven

  1. This spoke volumes to me, I am investigating the concepts of misery and mercy in my own life right now, and finding mercy only in the things that link back to God. It is very peace bringing. Thank you for the reminder.
