He Saw By Brenda Drake

He Saw

While looking over the city, Jesus could see,
That it would suffer; because of apathy.
How He longed to save it from such a fate,
But the time was upon Him – the time was late.
He knew men’s hearts; the fickleness of man.
He knew their great need, and the Father’s plan.
He saw, as they lifted their voice in praise,
That many would cry, “Crucify Him,” in just a few days.
Heaven was watching,; as the multitude ushered in Jesus as King.
They saw the little children dance and sing.
Great, was the expectation and excitement in the air.
The streets were lined, with Angels, that also was there.
Two kingdoms were watching; one blind and one that could see.
The eyes of man were hindered by sin; and ideas preconceived.
They only saw their desire for a King to crown.
They shouted praise, as they waved palms, and threw them down.
But the heavens, saw God’s great plan unfolding before them.
They too could see mankind’s great need to be freed from sin.
Indeed, the rocks would have shouted, if the children did not sing,
For Greatly to be praised, is Christ the King!

Luke 19:41-43
And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

Extinguished Light By Brenda Drake

Extinguished Light

The Light was extinguished; blown out by sin.
A terrible darkness covered Him
The One that was pure and whiter than new fallen snow,
Was blackened, by the sin- blight of every mortal soul.
His heart was broken; crushed by the pain,
The Holy love of the Father, could not with Him remain.
Love called out “Forgive them, they know not what they do.”
His love, committed Himself, to die for me and you.
What love; what a dedicated love, that chose to die for the lost.
That in such suffering, endured the terrible defilement of the cross.
But, on the third day, there was Light.
Jesus lives again, to his dicipals delight.
He that so loved the world… loves us still.
He, that died for our sins, has His Father’s will fulfilled.
Sinful, darkened, believing- hearts, are made new and whole.
Full of light and love is the redeemed soul.
He lives! He lives! They gladly testify.
Because He lives ,He has brought His light inside.
Because He lives, the believer is new and whole,
With sweet songs of joy; the Easter message is retold.

John 9:5
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

2 Cor 4:6
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Gossiping Gus
By Brenda Drake

He runs from house to house, old Gossiping Gus.
His mouth is like a storm; always blowing up a fuss.
He spreads deep, dark, secrets, or, even lies around.
He shares with every listening ear; all the news he has found.
He daintily nibbles the morsel of rumor, each bite he savors.
Gossiping Gus is not selfish; he shares with all his friends and neighbors.
It matters not to him the damage his mouth incurs.
He easily can make excuse for his unholy words.
Gossiping Gus, is always welcome; by others with gossiping tongues.
They are everywhere; they are old and they are young.
They can’t be trusted – never let them see,
Any flaws, or, imperfections; hidden in thee.
Or, you will find, you’ve become the target of their game.
Then you, will be ripped and torn apart and defamed.
The only way you are free is to stay away from them.
For it is sometimes very tempting to join in.
Perhaps you have taken part in a nibble; a time or two.
First: repent, and then pray, for other gossiping Gus’s too
Pray, that their tongue, will do what it was meant to do from the start,
To lift up, to edify, to sing, and to give praise from a pure heart!

Prov 21:23
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

The Guest of Honor By Brenda Drake

The Guest of Honor

I heard Him knocking at my heart’s door,
I opened it a crack, and saw it was the Lord.
He told me, what He did to set me free,
I listened, to Him politely.
I opened a little wider, to hear what He would say.
However, for a few times; I would ask Him to go away.
Then one day, I was sad and lonely, and I opened up to Him.
He was the Guest of Honor and I listened closely again.
He assured me what He said was the truth.
He also said, there was nothing else I needed to do.
He came back often and I began to see,
That this once stranger, was becoming more and more to me
One day the thought of Him leaving, caused me great pain,
Then, I asked the Guest of Honor to remain.
He said, if I would repent and believe in all He has done,
Not only would He remain, Him and I would become as one.
Now, I live with Him, and in me, He abides.
My guest now owns all I am; He is my dearest friend inside.
Because of the great work He did upon the cross for me,
He will raise me up to be with Him, for all eternity.
I will not enter heaven as guest of honor, but as His bride.
I am so glad I repented of my sins, and invited Him inside!

Rev 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

The Voice of God by Brenda Drake

The Voice of God

God’s voice can thunder across the sky
Or it can penetrate through walls that are built up inside
Walls of self- sufficiency; are very thick, it is true.
Nevertheless, God has a way of getting through.
Man chooses to listen or not to hear His call,
When he does hear; crashing down comes the walls.
The hardness, of the unforgiving heart, is very strong.
It shuts out God’s love songs.
The terrible barriers of hatred, closes up so tight,
That darkness bars the entrance, of Love’s light.
Jesus is the Word spoken from the cross to man,
That will break down the dividers; just as the Father planned.
Love enters the place that is barren and lost;
And makes new; by the work of the cross.
Right now, the Spirit speaks of love and light.
He speaks in the stillness His words of delight.
The voice of wisdom makes a great impression
It satisfies, and fills up, with joy, peace, and inner reflection.
When you are hungry for wisdom … Come and read the Word,
You will marvel at God’s voice heard.
When you are hurt and wounded, and are in inner pain,
Come, and seek the Great Physician; that calls out your name.
He will restore, heal, and comfort with His loving touch,
That speaks loudly within to show you He loves you much.

Prov 8:20
I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

Comfort Food for the soul.

Just a thought.  I was thinking about food.  I love comfort food. Most are not the most healthy for our bodies. But then things in God’s kingdom are usually completely different than what we know on earth right? Example on earth we gather and store to accumulate wealth.  Our Lord tells us to give to receive.  We are applauded and encouraged to have pride and to be a self made man.  Our Lord hates pride.  It is the sin that caused Satan’s fall. We are called to be humble and selfless to follow in the footsteps of our loving Savior. So back to comfort food.  I believe the poems God has bestowed on me is comfort food for the soul.  Perhaps this another reason for my first book of poems to be called Waves of Comfort. Poetry is comfort food for the soul.

The Perfect Place By Brenda Drake

The Perfect Place

There is a perfect place where the sun shines bright
That is private, safe, and completely out of sight
Where, your words and thoughts are heard before you even speak.
And, where all that is of most value, is safe there to keep.
In this place, the atmosphere promotes peace, joy, and goodwill.
Its space is wide and vast but with promise filled.
It has pure waters that forever flow
Pleasure dwells within every visiting soul.
Where food that nourishes heart, mind, and emotions,
Is offered with utter respect and with pure, loving devotion
Its space, is reserved just for you to come,
Into the realm provided by the grace and mercy of the Holy One
Come to the secret place of prayer
Into God’s embrace that He with you will share:
His joy, His wisdom, and His helping hand,
With His strength, and power, to go forth, to live and to serve your fellow man.
To reach and to teach others and to show the way,
To (the perfect place) entered when you pray.

Torn Flowers By Brenda Drake

Torn Flowers

In rocky soil in the appointed place,
The little flower lifts up it face.
Perhaps no one ever notices, but still it is there;
Offering its aroma, to anyone, that cares.
Now in this story, you may begin to perceive,
That every (bloom), is important to me.
Occasionally, you get a glimpse of someone others pass by.
And. you appreciate their touch upon your life.
Perhaps their aroma, has sweetened the air you breathe,
And they have become very precious to thee.
But what I, want you to see, is the ones; stepped upon.
The one, that all their beauty is gone.
They are, ragged from the cares of life, and, the world’s abuse;
Forgotten, and tossed aside; like an old pair of shoes.
I desire for you to know
That the One that (so loved the world) loves them so
Gather them close and you will see
That they become a beautiful display; a bouquet for the King
Love the unlovely; love the flowers torn,
For such are the ones, in God’s kingdom, and are, the reborn.
Do you remember your condition, before God came into your life?
How terrible, was the soul, before the touch of Christ.
You prove, torn flowers, may be completely restored,
By, the good work of love, a glory to the Lord.

I Climb A Mountain By Brenda Drake

I Climb a Mountain

I  climb a mountain, each day, quicker to the crest
To heavenly places my heart finds rest.
Ever closer, becoming like the One I live for,
I walk up the mountain to visit my Lord
Sometimes in a valley dark and cold
When I look up, I see heavens reflection, like purest gold.
At times, I find waters of trouble all around,
If I didn’t reach out to Him, surely I would drown
My enemies, seek always to distract; so I would lose my way.
However, I recognize the path marked, as I, God’s Word obey
Before long, the day is over, and I lay down again to rest,
For I’ve climbed God’s Mountain and Jesus is the crest.

Psalm 123:1
Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

He Heard Me By Brenda Drake

cover

This is an excerpt from my book Waves of Comfort.

I remember as a young child standing in my room at my Grandmother’s house, looking up to the heavens and saying, “ God, if you are really there why don’t you talk to me?” I listened but I did not hear a thing.
Many years later after I had asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior and had invited Him in my heart….. I heard him speak!
I was sound asleep and I heard “God is Love, Jesus is forgiveness” I woke up immediately.  Oh how excited I was – I knew it was God!  I then woke my husband up and repeated the wonderful message He spoke to me (he probably thought I had went crazy). I wrote it down in a little book.  I was so excited not only could I talk to God but He would speak to me!
Much later after the Holy Spirit taught me to listen I received this poem that reminded me of that day when as a child I called out that I wanted to hear him.  He had heard me!  I just could not hear Him
.

There was a small girl child with eyes open wide to see,
She called out to the heavens, to a word from God receive.
She challenged me to listen  and to speak to her clear,
However, she did not have a heart able to hear.
Many years went by and I called out to her many times.
One fine day, her heart with truth aligned.
It still took her awhile,to rest enough to hear my voice.
Now, the little child, can daily draw near so her heart can rejoice.
